Del Rio, Texas, is a small border town, the county seat of Val Verde County, with about 35,000 residents. It's also right on the border with Mexico; the border that the Biden-Harris administration claims to be under control, while Kamala Harris herself claims she will get it under control.
How out of control that border is may be evidenced by one thing: The residents of Del Rio are arming themselves in increasing numbers. That's good for local gun shop owner Gary Humphreys but for all the wrong reasons.
Gary Humphreys, the owner of Humphreys' Gun Shop, located in Del Rio since 1973, spoke with Fox News Digital about how border issues have affected his business.
"Since this border opened up, we're getting new people that never owned guns coming in and buying them," he said.
Humphreys discussed the clientele that he has seen increase since the border policies implemented by the Biden-Harris administration.
"Getting a lot of women that never owned a gun before coming in and buying them," he said, adding that women are mostly coming into his shop to purchase handguns for self-protection.
Humphreys said, "it's pretty scary out there" and had an incident when someone broke his front door.
He emphasized that, "people that don't live on the border don't realize what is really happening."
Well, a lot of us who don't live on the border do realize what's happening; former President Donald Trump has been beating that drum for quite a while now, among others.

But consider how this reveals the institutional schizophrenia of the Biden/Harris administration.
The Biden people and their enablers in the legacy media claim the border is under control, which is laughably and inarguably false to anyone with eyes to see. Meanwhile, Kamala Haris is on the campaign trail, claiming that she will get the border under control. That's right; she is promising to get the same border under control that her boss (hah) claims is already under control. Meanwhile, people in Del Rio and presumably other border towns are arming up out of fear, and in places as far from the border as Colorado, illegal alien gangs are taking over apartment buildings.

This situation can't continue. But add it to a long list of conditions that can't continue; the national debt, for instance, or the ongoing and, one might say, accelerating deterioration of our major cities.
While immigration and the border are issues that favor Donald Trump in the November election, this is an issue that will take more than four years to fix. No matter how many border hawks a possible Trump/Vance administration puts on the task, there are millions in the country illegally and millions more who want to skip the line and sneak in. This is a crisis that will take a generation to fix, and that's only if every presidential administration in that time stays committed to the task.
Does anyone think a Harris/Walz administration, or indeed any possible future administration headed by "progressive" democrats will do anything but leave the floodgates open?
Meanwhile, the residents of Del Rio are buying guns, and we can scarcely blame them. We may well be facing armed conflict along the border, and not between forces of the United States government and Mexico, but between armed everyday Americans and criminal invaders. Nothing about any of this promises a happy ending.
