Kamala Harris and the Disaster on the Southern Border

To call the United States border security a disaster, especially on the southern border, is to indulge in the grossest of understatements. The influx of illegal immigrants flows, unchecked, day and night; massive caravans form in Central America and walk north, knowing that under the Biden/Harris administration, they can speak the rehearsed terms to claim "asylum" and be allowed in, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

It's grown steadily worse since January of 2021, and a good part of the blame for that can be placed squarely on the shoulders of the "border czar," Kamala Harris.

US President Joe Biden has put Vice-President Kamala Harris in charge of controlling migration at the southern border following a big influx of new arrivals.

Mr Biden said he was giving her a "tough job" but that she was "the most qualified person to do it".

The numbers of people arriving have grown since Mr Biden took office.

They include hundreds of unaccompanied minors who are being held in immigration detention facilities.

Her assignment as "border czar," despite current denials by the Biden/Harris administration and the legacy media, was widely reported at the time.

President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he has appointed Vice President Kamala Harris to lead efforts to stem migration across the U.S.-Mexico border, as the administration faces growing political pressure to address a surge in undocumented migrant children unaccompanied by parents.

So, yes, protestations aside, Madam Vice President, you were tasked with dealing with the massive influx of illegal immigrants. And illegal immigration has spiked under the Biden/Harris administration. Kamala Harris was in charge of dealing with the massive influx — and she has utterly and completely failed — in part because she never really tried.

The estimated population of unauthorized immigrants in the U.S. stands at around 11 million people. Although the number has stabilized, the United States has seen a spike in migrant encounters in the last few years, with over two million cases registered by the U.S. Border Patrol in 2023. This is a slight decrease from the previous year, when there were over 2.2 million cases registered. Due to its proximity and shared border, Mexico remains the leading country of origin for most undocumented immigrants in the U.S., with California and Texas being home to the majority.

Eleven million people — many of whom are unknown quantities. People have flooded into the United States, not just from Central and South America but from places like Africa and the Middle East, and (I know I keep repeating this, but it bears repetition) we just plain don't know who many of them are, why they are here, where they intend to go, or what they intend to do when they get there. This is a recipe for trouble, and we won't know when or where it will happen until it does. My Townhall colleague Kurt Schlichter has already presented one possible scenario, and it's horrifying — you should read it.

The Blood on Kamala Harris's Hands

So, if one was put in charge of getting a nation's border under control, wouldn't it make sense to, you know, actually visit the border? Kamala Harris has not done so. She has visited El Paso and has spoken with immigrants and with the activist groups that cater to the illegal immigrant community, but was not within eyesight of the border; even if only for optics, one would think she would have appeared on the border that she's in charge of.

Since then, the vice president has not visited the border. The odds of her visiting the border now, while she's running for the top job, are infinitesimal. Take note, as well, of who she spoke with; her priority was not speaking with the people who enforce our border, who daily deal with the massive influx, but with the activist groups who encourage illegal immigration and who work to ensure the illegal entrants are fed and transported to where ever they want to go.

It gets worse: Kamala Harris, from January 2021 to date, has never spoken with either Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, now retired, or current Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens. Not once.

Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens says Vice President Kamala Harris has not spoken with him since he was appointed in July 2023.

President Joe Biden tapped Harris to lead his administration’s border efforts in March 2021. She made trips to some South American countries in the following months to plead with people not to make the dangerous trip to the United States, but she has not been visible in the years since as the problem ballooned.

Retired Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz told CBS in March he also never spoke with Harris during his tenure from August 2021 through June 2023.

This isn't an error or omission. This can only be deliberate neglect. This is unconscionable. This is inexcusable. This is a dereliction of duty. Government has only one primary purpose — to protect the liberty and the property of the citizens. In this, in her role as border czar, Kamala Harris has failed.

In summary: Kamala Harris, protestations from the Biden administration and the legacy media aside, was assigned to the crisis on the southern border and has made a complete dog's breakfast of it. She not only willfully neglected the southern border, but she deliberately favored the activist groups that encourage and facilitate illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, Americans are literally dying as a result of these policies. The crisis on our borders, and the accompanying massive influx of illegal immigrants, presents one more reason that America cannot afford a Kamala Harris presidency.
