Sometimes the old warning "what goes around comes around" hits home at the worst moments. This happened to a trio of Commerce City, Colorado criminals on Saturday, when they robbed a check-cashing service, only to emerge from the scene of the robbery and find their getaway car had been stolen.
Talk about karma biting them in the butt.
An armed robbery in Colorado turned awry for the alleged perpetrators when police say someone stole their getaway car in the middle of a heist.
Three masked and armed individuals allegedly robbed a check cashing service in Commerce City on Saturday morning, according to the local police department. No injuries were reported.
Officers have arrested two of the three suspects and are currently investigating the incident, the police department said in social media posts on Facebook and X.
“In an unexpected and ironic twist… as the trio was robbing the business…a fourth criminal stole their getaway vehicle… which may have already been stolen,” a Facebook post stated in an update about the robbery. “We don’t know. If we get a solid description of it, we will release that here.”
You can't make this stuff up.
We can add this to the "Poetic Justice" category, along with political figures and municipalities paying the price for pro-criminal policies they have advocated; and while plenty of criminals display an ample amount of chutzpah, the deliciousness of this event is just too much fun. One can imagine the dialogue:
"Dude! Where's our car?"
"I left it right here!"
"I know you did! I got out of it with you! Where is it now?"
"If I knew, don't you think I'd tell you?"
"You didn't leave the keys in it, did you?"
"Well, I thought we'd need to make a fast getaway, so..."
"You idiot! In this neighborhood?"

The original report, on Facebook, stated:
After three armed and masked individuals robbed the Hi Lo Check Cashing in the 7200 block of Monaco just before 11am, officers infiltrated the area and quickly chased down and arrested two of the three suspects.
The investigation is ongoing. We are relieved no one was injured.
Well, sure they were able to quickly chase down and arrest two of the perps; they didn't have a car to flee in. And we are, likewise, relieved that no one was hurt, not only because that would have taken all of the humor out of the incident.
Some years back, a buddy of mine was dating the daughter of an Iowa State Police sergeant, who, once we got over the intimidation factor laid on us by this 6'4", 250-pound lawman, turned out to be a pretty good guy. He once told us that, in thirty years as a cop, he had learned that criminals all shared three basic personality traits: Greedy, Mean, and Stupid. All three were invariably present, although the proportions of them varied. The three Commerce City perps would seem to be pretty heavy on the "Stupid" side of the troika.
Sadly, there is no surveillance video available to show us the expression on the robbery suspects' faces when they emerged to find their getaway car missing. That would have been the icing on the cake.
