AOC Claims Girls Would Be Subject to 'Genital Examinations' If Boys Barred From Girls' Sports

Maybe it would be good to bring about a Constitutional amendment to disallow bartenders from running for elected office.

I kid, of course. But the idea is based on a real person. As if her Congressional career hasn't been wacky enough already, now the astounding mind of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has come up with the idea that barring boys from girls' sports would result in girls being subject to -- get this -- genital examinations. Yes, really.

"Squad" Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed that "all" underage women will face "genital examinations" if biological men are barred from women's sports.

Ocasio-Cortez made her claim during the Tuesday House Oversight Subcommittee on Health hearing featuring NCAA swimming legend and women's sports advocate Riley Gaines.

The New York Democrat said there were several proposals looking to "marginalize" transgender Americans before claiming during her questioning that women would have to get their pants checked if someone disbelieves their stated gender.

Here she is with the claim in question:

It is perhaps belaboring the obvious to point out that, to ascertain a child's sexual status, all one would have to do is to look at their birth certificate; or, assuming that one day agitators succeed in having "sex" removed from birth certificates - a simple DNA test from a cheek swab would tell the tale. No genital inspection is required. There are, after all, still such things as X and Y chromosomes, and no amount of surgery or hormones can change those.

Besides, if genitals don't determine sex - or gender, which I would point out is a term applying to linguistics, not biology - then what good would a genital inspection do, anyway?

She went on to spew more nonsense:

We are talking about opening up all women and girls to genital examinations when they are underage, potentially just because someone can point to someone and say, I don’t think you are a girl.

And we're saying this in an environment of a post-Dobbs America, where states are criminalizing access to abortion and want nothing more than data on women to figure out when, who's getting a menstrual cycle, who doesn't have one, and we're supposed to believe this is going to make us better and safer?

To answer her question: Yes, this will make us better. Maybe not safer; that's a term tossed around all too casually by the left, claiming such things as wanting to have only girls on girls' sports teams somehow makes them "unsafe," which is, to put it bluntly, poppycock. But better? Yes, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, having only girls on girls' sports teams will improve things.

I've written in detail, as have many of my colleagues here at RedState and the larger Townhall universe, of the hideous unfairness of allowing boys to play on girls' teams; in fact, in the set of hearing in which Ocasio-Cortez issued these howlers, Riley Gaines was also testified from personal experience as to just how hideously unfair the practice is. Gaines later rightfully lashed out at Ocasio-Cortez for her misguided and inaccurate statements.

Certain states check birth certificates and certain [sports] governing bodies [do] cheek swabs, but there is no genital inspection. Actually, the people who had their genitals inspected were the females in that locker room who had a man in that locker room. But that doesn’t matter to AOC or, again, any of the Democratic members in the U.S. House and the Senate or the Biden administration. I certainly agree that was entirely fearmongering. That’s absolutely what that was.

AOC is famous for all kinds of hysterical (and I use the term advisedly) pronouncements, many of which do not come within shouting distance of reality. She has recently made some amazing statements on the meaning of being a Jew, along with regaling us on her expertise in political-military affairs, and her shouting in defense of a fellow Squad member who is arguably guilty of an act that would have got him imprisoned instead of just censured if he had instead done it, say, on January 6th, 2021.

I'll give Ms. Ocasio-Cortez credit for one thing. In the 2018 election cycle, she saw weakness in the perennial candidate for her Congressional district, that being the rather hapless Joe Crowley. She did the homework, burned the shoe leather, shook a lot of hands, and slapped him right out of the primary for that seat -- and in this deep blue, urban NY district, the nomination is tantamount to victory. She did that, she earned it, and I'll give her credit for it.

Her performance since, though, has ranged from baffling to guffaw-inducing to maddening. This profound misunderstanding of basic biology or even legal recordkeeping (does she even know what a birth certificate is?) is just the latest example.

Honestly, she should have stuck with bartending.
