As if we didn't have enough to deal with already, now there has been a Bigfoot sighting in Colorado. The accompanying photo of the cryptid beast is predictably unclear.
A couple taking a train ride through rural Colorado sent Bigfoot enthusiasts into a frenzy after posting footage of a mysterious figure walking through the mountains online – which many have speculated could be the elusive creature.
Shannon Parker and Stetson Tyler were travelling on the Narrow Gauge train ride from Durango to Silverton and were “looking for elk” when they spotted movement on the mountainside.
A video captured by a fellow passenger shows a large, bipedal creature moving across the pass, before stopping and squatting down on its haunches.
If it was a large, bipedal creature — the video is unclear — then it's a human, because Bigfoot doesn't exist. Plenty of people with plenty of cameras have been on Sasquatchwatch for decades, and to this day no credible photo or video has arisen.
But you can't stop a true believer. They don't toe the line; they are stepping out and putting their best foot forward:
“After leaving Silverton and heading back to Durango, I asked Stetson to help me look for elk in the mountains. As we are passing by the mountains, Stetson sees something moving and then says I think it’s Bigfoot,” Ms Parker wrote on Facebook.
“Brandon, the guy sitting next to Stetson on the train, grabs his phone and starts recording… Y’all, out of the hundreds of people on the train, three or four of us actually saw, as Stetson says in the video, the ever elusive creature Bigfoot!
Only days ago, my colleague Mike Miller chronicled for us the appearance of alleged Bigfeet much farther east. The same disclaimer pertains, of course; these weren't Bigfoot because Bigfoot doesn't exist.
Here's the thing, and I'm speaking as a biologist whose back-in-the-day specialty was in field zoology: To have a big, man-sized or larger primate of some kind living in a populated area, it's important to remember that you can't have just a few dozen individuals running around — not for the amount of time that people have reported seeing these cryptids. The survival of these creatures would require a population, at minimum, of several thousands of these animals, with sightings reported all over, including in many heavily populated areas from Florida to Sasquatchewan — and not one creature has yet been found dead, or hit by a car, caught eating its breakfast of Frosted Footflakes, or just plain wandered into a security camera's view? Like the reports of aliens, there just never seems to be any real evidence. These creatures are either masters of hide-and-seek or they are just plain always one step ahead of us — or, if you apply Occam's Razor, they aren't there because Bigfoot doesn't exist.
Color me skeptical, as always. I've looked over a lot of photos, a lot of videos, and a lot of reports, and I'm Yeti to be convinced.
It's been a hairy problem for Bigfoot-seekers for many years, even those whose sole purpose is seeking the beasts. But it's possible that now, skepticism aside, we may be facing a Sasquatch Redemption. There have been a few sightings that were not fuzzy, grainy, barely perceptible snaps — take a look at this short documentary film, and you too might believe it!
