Blind Hogs and Acorns: The Biden Administration Gets One Right, Lawmakers Supporting Hamas 'Disgraceful'

I have been — and always shall be — a critic of the Biden administration. It has been marked by incompetence, fecklessness, dementia, and corruption. But in their denouncement of lawmakers who are tacitly supporting Hamas, they got things exactly right in calling them "wrong" and "disgraceful."

The old saying about blind hogs and acorns applies here.

The White House said Tuesday that statements from members of Congress calling for a ceasefire in Israel instead of issuing their full support for the country, following the surprise attack by Hamas, are “wrong” and “disgraceful.”

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about President Biden’s message to members of Congress who seem to be equating the Hamas terror attack with actions that were previously taken by Israel. When asked which members, Real Clear Politics reporter Philip Wegmann said that some members have called for a ceasefire and not gone as far as backing the administration’s call for support for Israel.

“So, I’ve seen some of those statements this weekend. And we’re gonna continue to be very clear. We believe they’re wrong. We believe they’re repugnant and we believe they’re disgraceful,” Jean-Pierre said.

I never thought I'd say this about Karine Jean-Pierre, but... she's right.

My RedState colleagues have been reporting on the responses from the usual suspects; these are the wrong and disgraceful people Ms. Jean-Pierre is talking about:

What makes these "lawmakers" especially wrong and disgraceful is the horribly clear moral distinction between the parties in this conflict. One side attacks a bunch of unarmed young people at a rave; they attack civilians in their homes, they murder entire families, they rape and murder young women, they kill and, yes, behead babies. The other side responds vigorously, as they should, but undergoes exercises like "roof knocking" to reduce civilian casualties. There can be no moral equivalence drawn here; one side is civilized, the other, savages.

Here's one of the most disgusting comments from a Squad member:

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), who is of Palestinian heritage, in her statement called for “dismantling the apartheid system that creates the suffocating, dehumanizing conditions that can lead to resistance.” Bush said she condemned the targeting of civilians and called for the end of U.S. support for Israel.

Tlaib's use of "apartheid" reveals her staggering ignorance. There are and have been over 100 members of Arab descent in the Knesset, Israel's Parliament. Muslim Arabs who are Israeli citizens serve in the IDF; they own property, they have jobs, and they vote, just like any other Israeli citizen. If Israel is an "apartheid" state, then they are the worst apartheid state in the history of apartheid states.

Earlier today (Tuesday), my colleague Bob Hoge explained how the radical Left is not driven by fact but by ideology, and he's right; it is The Side above all with these people.

While many leftists are quick to describe the Jan. 6 protests as the height of evil—a “threat to democracy,” they say, although no real threat to our system was actually posed—they remain silent when barbarism is conducted before their very eyes, as militants beheaded babies, massacred hundreds of young people enjoying music, indiscriminately wiped out entire families in a quest… for what, exactly?

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), often accused of antisemitism, ran away when asked by a reporter about the atrocities against the Israeli people, refusing to acknowledge the depravity of the Hamas terrorists who seemed to take a special glee in their murderous spree.

There are times when the proper stance for elected officials is ambiguous. This is not one of those times. The lines are clear; one side is in the right, and the other is viciously, horribly in the wrong. One side would live in peace with their neighbors if they could; the other wants to kill every man, woman, and child on the other side. The lines couldn't be clearer; the Biden administration, in calling such statements by these Squad members and others who are not supporting Israel as "wrong" and "disgraceful," is exactly right. The Squad and others are wrong and disgraceful. Anyone who supports Hamas in this tacitly supports raping and murdering young women, executing entire families, and beheading babies. These are some of the most evil, horrifying acts in modern history, and anyone who offers support, even if just spoken support, to Hamas in this is unworthy to be called an American.

Next week, I will no doubt have cause to criticize the Biden administration again. But credit where credit is due. This time, on this issue, they are exactly right.
