We have had better days with our cousins in Canada.
This is not the end of anything, but there is a bit of a hitch in the road that I would rather get fixed ASAP than have linger on for years like some border dispute.
Like between the United States and its neighbor to the north.
Oh. That would be Canada.
Just yesterday, I wrote about the sovereign visit, which occurs every two or three decades or so, from the King or Queen of England. This visit marks the occasion of Canada becoming a sovereign country, wherein it pretends that it is all grown up and is not under British rule.

In that article, I said:
King Charles III said Canada is facing unprecedented challenges in a world that's never been more dangerous as he opened the Canadian Parliament on Tuesday with a speech widely viewed as a show of support in the face of annexation threats by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The king is the head of state in Canada, which is a member of the Commonwealth of former colonies. Trump’s repeated suggestion that Canada become the 51st state prompted Prime Minister Mark Carney to invite Charles to give a speech from the throne outlining the Liberal government's priorities for the new session of Parliament.
“We must face reality: since the Second World War, our world has never been more dangerous and unstable. Canada is facing challenges that, in our lifetimes, are unprecedented," Charles said in French, one of Canada's official languages.
The King was invited right around the time that brand-new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, had his first meeting with Donald Trump in the Oval Office. That meeting was supposed to normalize relations between the two countries that had faltered under Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
Ok, that's good.
Brisk, but good.
Now, today, however, the upstarts from the north have taken their quest for more independence to Europe to stick something in Uncle Sam's eye, if you will.
According to the BBC:
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he wants his country to join a major European plan to bolster defences by 1 July.
Speaking to CBC on Tuesday, Carney said he hoped Canada would sign on to ReArm Europe - a plan to dramatically increase defence spending on the continent to in the next five years - in a bid to reduce reliance on the US.
"Seventy-five cents of every (Canadian) dollar of capital spending for defence goes to the United States. That's not smart," Carney told the public broadcaster.
His remarks come amid tension with the US after threats from President Donald Trump - though Carney has also previously said he is open to joining a missile defence project proposed by Trump.
This makes me proud of how the new Canadian Prime Minister, who just won his position at the end of April, has been watching how the game is played. He compliments the United States, being he shares a massive border with us, while also holding his hand out and begging the Europeans for some help.
It's quite crafty, really.
There is a bit more here:
Defence also featured on Tuesday in the Speech from the Throne - an event that opened the new parliament and outlined the sitting government's agenda.
The address was read in person by King Charles III, Canada's monarch, as part of a royal visit that was designed to highlight Canada's identity and sovereignty.
The speech contained commitments to "rebuilding, rearming, and reinvesting" in Canada's military.
It also outlined the government's goal of strengthening defence relationships with European allies, and made mention of joining the ReArm Europe plan.
Really.
Who could it be that was mentioned in this article at the end here? Could it be DONALD TRUMP?
Yes, it could be him.
Donald Trump decided yesterday that it was good that the King was opening the parliament in Canada, but he had to make sure that HRM understood that he had been courting Canada with hopes of alleviating their cost in a missile defense system. Now, for most American politicians, it is not the time to bring that up, but for Trump, he has no such limitations.
He just decided to let his good friend to the north, and the one that he will visit soon across the pond, know that he is still around and carries a mighty big stick.
Just in case anyone forgot.
Which they could never do.
The United States and Canada are the best of buds forever and ever as long as they keep making that fabulous beer during hockey season.
