Okay, so let me start by wondering something out loud. I invite you the loyal readers of RedState to -- at the end of this article -- check out my bio to figure out how you can give me your answer because this is a critical question that is now rattling around in the vast expanse of my mind.
In the upcoming war between the United States and Canada, much like the War of 1812, whose side will Great Britain take this time?
Canada is still part of the crown sooooooooooo?
I have been jokingly telling people about the upcoming war between the United States and Canada over how much tax to charge on butter and milk. Now of course I'm only half joking because the Canadians aren't allowed to own guns easily, but because they sell beer that has a higher alcohol content, they probably can absorb more bullets flying around them.
Probably ends up being a draw, just like it was in 1812.
So just yesterday I wrote that new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney called for a snap election five weeks from now, which would be at the end of April. This allows a government that has a parliamentary system to try to take advantage of favorable polling and to get reelected within a new five-year time frame.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called a snap election - saying he needed a strong mandate to deal with the threat that Donald Trump's tariffs pose to the economy.
Unelected Carney, who was made leader of the Canadian Liberal party after Justin Trudeau stepped down, is attempting to sweep the polls and capitalize on the recovery the party has made in recent weeks.
The next election was not due until October 20, but it will now go ahead before the end of next month on April 28, Carney announced on Sunday.
So far so good...
Carney took a swipe at Trump during the speech - saying that the GOP leader has caused the most significant 'crisis of our lifetimes' and threatened Canadian freedom. This is in relation to Trump's desire to make the country the US's 51st state.
'We are facing the most significant crisis of our lifetimes because of President Trump's unjustified trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty,' Carney said.
'There is so much more to do to secure Canada. To invest in Canada, to build Canada, to unite Canada. That's why I'm asking for a strong positive mandate from my fellow Canadians.'
That last part right there, about Trump and Canada becoming the 51st state, is probably not going to sit well with POTUS 47. In case people across the world have not yet taken note, Donald Trump loves to mix it up with people who disagree with him.
Also, blaming Trump for a crisis is not going to sit well at all, I'm guessing.
Well, now the protests are beginning on both sides of the Detroit River, which I read about right HERE.
Protesters filled Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit on Saturday afternoon. They said the goal of the protest was to show unity with Canada and send a message to President Trump.
“Our biggest message is hands-off," said organizer Audrey Dubois. "Hands off our democracy, hands off our lives, went in peace with Canada.. we want to live in a democracy.
“My friends in Canada are very fearful about what’s going on right now with the American government," said Sheral Bradley, a protester from South Haven.
While protesters filled up Hart Plaza, there was another protest happening in Windsor at the same time.
Dubois is one of the organizers on the U.S. side, she says she has friends who are protesting across the border.
“They frustrated, they do not like what’s happening, they do not like the tariffs," Dubois said. "They want also to get engaged and involved, they don’t want to sit on the ends and be like powerless, this is really empowering them.”
Audrey, who was one of the protest organizers, just wanted to make sure that the message she needed to deliver of “hands off her democracy” (republic) hands off our lives (unless it's having to take a COVID shot to do things), and we want peace with Canada (duh), and we want to live in a democracy (WE ARE A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC) for cripes sake, was delivered.
That people get all wound up about Donald Trump is one of the more amazing things about his whole run for office and his presidency. There were serious, intelligent people that I had conversations with back in January of 2021 who were certain he was not going to leave the White House peacefully and the military and was going to be ordered to take over to keep him in office.
I kid you not.
Rubes.
Thankfully, the people who are willing to protest on the American side of the river and do it peacefully are a major plus these days. I know I'm reaching a bit here, but the leftists on the state side of the Detroit River have been going a little bit off the rails since Donald Trump was sworn in on January 20th and are furious that the prices of butter and bread coming from Canada are going up. Hopefully, it stays this way, however, when the war between the Yankees and the Canucks starts.
All bets are off.
