Bill Maher sure knows how to kick up some sand and controversy at people that he is politically aligned with. Now, I know some people might think this is an act and if that is true, that would be a shame. However, I’m beginning to think he’s one of those rare individuals that is 100 percent committed to speaking his mind and ticking off whoever it may be, come hell or high water.
Maher, of course, is no conservative in any way, shape, or form but this trait of his of telling it as he sees it is refreshing to see. I have covered his view on the world before like from my article earlier this year over at Red State VIP Don’t Put Classic Liberals Like Bill Maher on a Pedestal, but Appreciate Their Honesty…
Even though Maher is a traditional liberal, I still support his right to seek employment from a company that is willing to pay him for his services as long as they are inclined to pay him. I’m a crazy free thinker like that.
Why fear the free flow of ideas like the progressive left does?
When I say that Maher is a traditional liberal, I’m talking about throwbacks like two former vice presidents in the mold of Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey. They believed that the federal government needed to do more things to “help people” by taking away their motivation to do for one’s self, since a bureaucrat in the Capitol in Washington, D.C., could do it better. I know that this is a brief encapsulation, but I wanted to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. Maher also fits into this mold, being that those two, former elected officials and others like them would NEVER object to folks speaking out peacefully or advocating for people they disagree with being “canceled” in the name of achieving their objectives.
They valued the give and take of debate, much like the founders of this country did.
Maher is a comic by trade, so I appreciate his take on things even if I do not agree with his overall, bigger government view.
So I am under no Illusion when I give any praise to Maher. I know he does not have conservative leanings and he is for bigger government, welfare programs that have never worked, and generally less American influence on the world stage. Yet if you’re willing to criticize you should also be willing to praise. At least I think I read that somewhere once.
Here is the latest example of Maher saying the right thing and flamethrowing his political side while doing it. From the Blaze Bill Maher hammers liberals who say masculinity is always toxic. ‘Real Time’ host praises males defending Ukraine, points out how ‘the world still needs grown-ass men.’…
Bill Maher laced into liberals who attack men for having supposed “toxic masculinity.” The “Real Time with Bill Maher” host used Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and men taking up arms to defend Ukraine from the Russian invasion as examples of how masculinity can be anything but toxic.
“If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the crisis in Ukraine, it’s that everyone loves, and the world still needs, grown-ass men,” Maher began his rant.
Maher noticed that American women are obsessing over Zelenskyy, who the New York Post and Forward labeled as a “sex symbol” earlier this month. Maher stressed that progressives can’t consider Zelenskyy a sex symbol while also denouncing masculinity as toxic.
The liberal talk show host jokingly hypothesized, “Could it be that as much as women may want to create the perfect man there’s always going to be a little bit of toxic mixed in with our masculinity and no amount of training will turn us into your favorite ‘Twilight’ character.
I know that the “Putin is justified in invading Ukraine” crowd is going to hate what Maher said here but that doesn’t make it any less true. The whole country of Ukraine right now is standing up to a despot who has a long history of aggression.
I know in this country we are having trouble defining what a woman is, but in a country fighting a war for their sovereignty and lives, they do not have that luxury. Wars are won in many different ways but one of the components that you absolutely need is some toxic masculinity. Thank God there are people in this world that are still willing to exhibit this.
Maybe one day Ukraine will grow as advanced as us here in this country and be able to debate whether or not people are really born male or female or if that decision needs to be held off until the advanced age of five years old.
Until then, I hope Bill Maher keeps speaking his mind, we need more of that.
