What Do Joe Rogan, Bill Maher, Russell Brand Have in Common? Liberals Who Are Sick Of...

The American media for the last two weeks or longer has been all about shining the spotlight on podcaster extraordinaire Joe Rogan. The Spotify host has gotten a lot of attention for garnering a lot more views and listeners than most “traditional” hosts on the mainstream media platforms and it has, in particular, really ticked off the journalist wanna-bes at CNN.

Here are just two examples of my colleagues here at RedState covering this in the past couple of days.

The ‘Cancel Joe Rogan’ Campaign Enters Its Third Phase—Courtesy of CNN’s Jan. 6 Obsession

CNN’s Confusion About Joe Rogan’s Popularity Says a Lot About Them

While this circus over Rogan and the very unsuccessful campaign to cancel him continues with the obvious overreaction to it, why are leftists going after one of their own in this manner?

Joe Rogan is a lefty, you say?

I’m just repeating what the man himself has said..

From the website HeavyJoe Rogan Unpacks His Politics: ‘I’m Socially Liberal’

Joe Rogan has maintained for years that his politics fall across a wide spectrum and do not match one party or the other. On a recent podcast episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan began discussing his political views with former CIA officer Mike Baker.

“I don’t give a f*** if you’re a Republican or a Democrat. I share ideas from both sides,” Rogan told Baker. “I’m kind of a hybrid in a lot of ways. I’m a big supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I’m a big supporter of the military. But I’m very liberal, I’m socially very liberal. I don’t buy this idea that I have to be a part of one party or another party.”

In January 2020, Rogan said “I’ve been liberal my whole life.”

Rogan fits more in the traditional liberal mold, which is about as far away as Mercury is from Pluto — in terms of distance from the progressive dumpster fire that liberals of today are. There is a difference, as I have written, about with another old-style liberal, Bill Maher in this VIP article below. (If you are not a VIP member you can join HERE)

Don’t Put Classic Liberals Like Bill Maher on a Pedestal, but Appreciate Their Honesty.

From that article…

When I say that Maher is a traditional liberal, I’m talking about throwbacks like two former vice presidents in the mold of Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey. They believed that the federal government needed to do more things to “help people” by taking away their motivation to do for one’s self, since a bureaucrat in the Capitol in Washington, D.C., could do it better. I know that this is a brief encapsulation, but I wanted to give you an idea of what I’m talking about. Maher also fits into this mold, being that those two, former elected officials and others like them would NEVER object to folks speaking out peacefully or advocating for people they disagree with being “canceled” in the name of achieving their objectives.

You can now also put ANOTHER comic into that club: Russell Brand. Last week Russell did an amusing breakdown of the lunacy that is leftist journalism and just happened to focus on, you guessed it, CNN. Russell Brand’s Hilarious Brian Stelter Take, as More Reports Show Why No One Trusts Him

So, why are all these people, who lean to the liberal side of the political spectrum, all of a sudden speaking out about the coverage (or lack of coverage) of things? Why are they stepping into the line of fire with regards to stomping out the smoldering grossness of wokeism?

They are wise enough to know that, eventually, that woke mob will come for them also. Constant rage needs to be fed with fuel at all times. Up until now, the targets have been easy and not been very effective at fighting back until recently. When someone can be shut down for the idiotic reason of not using the right pronoun, you have reached peak dopey-ness.

Another way of putting this is that these three men, and many others, are realizing that what Ronald Reagan said years ago is more true today than ever.

To sit back hoping that someday, someway, someone will make things right is to go on feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last – but eat you he will.

I know that many of the writers here have join me in sharing this sentiment — that if things are to turn around in this country, those who practice the noble art of comedy will have to lead the way. Comics depend on the ability to look at any segment of society and piss them off, and demonstrate absurdity by sometimes being absurd. The ability to think and speak freely is something that has set this country apart from others in the best way possible over the past 246 years.

This needs to continue. Thankfully, liberals like Rogan, Brand, and Maher — along with many others — are standing up and saying enough is enough. Don’t be afraid to have the debates, and if someone zings you, don’t look for the free speech referee to throw a flag to save your feelings.

Pick the flag up and dab your eyes, cupcake — and move along.

The last thing on this, from the Heavy interview: Rogan said something that I just find amusing.

When President Joe Biden won the Democratic presidential nomination in the summer of 2020, Rogan said on his show that he would rather vote for former President Donald Trump than Biden. He expressed what he believed to be concerns about the 78-year-old Biden’s mental capacity.

Rogan said during the April podcast episode, “I can’t vote for that guy. I’d rather vote for Trump than him. I don’t think he can handle anything. You’re relying entirely on his cabinet. If you want to talk about an individual leader who can communicate, he can’t do that. And we don’t know what the f*** he’ll be like after a year in office.”

Read that again (and I added some emphasis): “You’re relying entirely on his cabinet. If you want to talk about an individual leader who can communicate, he can’t do that. And we don’t know what the f*** he’ll be like after a year in office.”

Well, some of us had an idea what he would be like in office, being we watched him in his prime when he was just a simple train wreck from Deleware. Now the whole world knows, and it is not a good look.
