Michigan Candidate for Governor Holds a Fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in Florida

The Michigan election lords must have heard my comments on my radio show on WAAM 1600 A.M. & 92.7 F.M. in Ann Arbor a couple of weeks ago. I sat and wondered aloud when the GOP peeps running to win the nomination to face Whitmer would start making moves that the public would take notice of, being as we were coming up to FEBRUARY and it seemed very quiet.

A bit too quiet for political nerds such as moi.

Now, this post just proves if you ask a question nicely and focus on the awesomeness going on over in Canada with the Truckers For Freedom Convoy (Video: Truckers Take a Vote on Whether or Not to Continue the Protest in Alberta Canada), that your query might get answered.

That or the guy who won a Pulitzer for his work and does actual reporting might break the story that an event involving someone in the Governor’s race is going to happen. So I lucked out.

I have written about Charlie LeDuff and some of the stories he has broken and reported on over the past couple of years. His work on Governor Whitmer skirting her COVID restrictions and the nursing home numbers debacle during COVID, plus the Flint water mess up, are just a few of the must-reads that he has had. That is if you are into learning about what is going on around you from an actual reporter.

On Friday, I happened to come across a Facebook post from LeDuff from January 31st about a candidate for the GOP nomination for Governor in Michigan holding a fundraiser — but it was being held at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, which is, of course, in Florida.

Here is the post…

Now, some of you might be thinking that anyone from Michigan running for office should not be in any other state with the tin cup out for donations. I’m going to guess that most of those people have never spent a full winter in Michigan.

Plus, in case you had not heard, Gov. Whitmer just last November held some fundraisers in California according to a Fox News report. While the state was experiencing a big surge in COVID -19, of course.

From that report

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer attended cross-country fundraising events in California while her home state was leading the country in COVID-19 cases, according to campaign finance reports reviewed by Fox New Digital.

On Nov. 16, 2021, Detroit News headlines said “Michigan leads the nation in new COVID cases,” and “Michigan is now the worst COVID-19 hot spot in nation.” That same day, Whitmer was in California for a fundraising event, according to the 2021 fundraising reports.

The event was held at a private residence in Los Angeles, and Whitmer raised approximately $78,000 from the appearance. This was one stop on an apparent multi-day trip to California.

So in the battle of fundraisers outside of Michigan, I’m going to give the nod to the newcomer Tudor Dixon over Gov. Gretch. Florida has done a much better job of handling this “pandemic” than California and the Detroit Tigers hold their spring training games in Lakeland, Florida.

This is based on the science, of course, and cannot be refuted.

Also, holding a fundraiser at the place where the former President of the United States, who just happens to be Donald Trump, resides presents you with the possibility that he will pop in to say hello.

In the land of the talking mouse, crazy things can happen.

Now, Trump did not offer his endorsement to her campaign but from the video above, you can tell the former President was in fine form and Tudor Dixon looked to be enjoying the event and the spotlight that Trump brings. While we have had several candidates running for the GOP nomination for close to a year now, this event signals that the race is heating up and we should start hearing more from all the candidates in short order.

Even though Whitmer should be a political candidate with no viable future, she is the Governor of Michigan and raised over 14 million dollars for her campaign last year according to Bridge Michigan. She could win again much easier than some in the Michigan GOP would ever admit to. With her record of failure over the past three years, you would think that she would be toast, but this is Michigan.

I look forward to this race heating up — and the weather with it, for cripes sake.

Also, if you want to spend a little over an hour each Friday live — or anytime after — watching a show that is both entertaining and informative you do need to check out the No B.S. Newshour with Charlie LeDuff RIGHT HERE. LeDuff has broken some major stories over the past year doing the work that the mainstream media folks just won’t or can’t do. I promise you if you watch you will learn a couple of new things and that is never a bad thing.
