What is the world coming to? How could anyone on the big, blue marble we call Earth think that the lovely and oh so smart Alexandria Ocasio Cortez is NOT EFFECTIVE at lawmaking? Don’t you people know that she is so busy making Insta videos that she has no time to read a bill let alone make one?
#Duh.
Yet, here we are in the grips of COVID-19, and some group that someone, somewhere might have heard of released a study that says she was one of the least effective taxpayer-paid sponges. How is this possible?
Also, how are any of them effective?
Here are the deets from the Center for Effective Lawmaking, via the New York Post…
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among the least effective members of the last Congress according to a new survey from the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking — a joint project of Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia.
AOC introduced a total of 21 bills which the center defined as “substantive” — but that is where the story ends. Her legislation received no action in committees, no floor votes, and none ever became law, according to the center, which takes its data from Congress.gov.
“She introduced a lot of bills, but she was not successful at having them receive any sort of action in committee or beyond committee and if they can’t get through committee they cannot pass the House,” Alan Wiseman, a Vanderbilt political scientist and co-director of the center, told The Post.
“It’s clear that she was trying to get her legislative agenda moving and engage with the lawmaking process,” Wiseman added “But she wasn’t as successful as some other members were — even among [other] freshmen — at getting people to pay attention to her legislation.”
When looking at the legislative effectiveness of all congressional Democrats, AOC was ranked 230th out of 240 Democrats. Among the 19 Dem lawmakers from New York state, she ranked dead last.
She may have ranked 230 out of 240 and dead last from New York lawmakers, but she is number one in the hearts of the millennials on Twitter. That should count for something, right?
That AOC proposed 21 bills and didn’t even get a hearing on any of them should tell you something about what Nancy Pelosi thinks of her wonder gal from New York.
Madame Speaker is not a fan.
Getting a bill passed is not an easy thing to do as I recall from “SchoolHouse Rock.” However, when your party controls the chamber and you are a MEGA SUPER STAR like the former drink-slinger from some borough in New York, you should have some pull. That she could not even get a courtesy hearing on some bill that she had someone else write is a clear indication that Nancy can smile in front of a camera-loving AOC, but is a cold-hearted killer behind the scenes. That explains how Ms. Nancy has been around the political game for so long.
For someone that has almost 9 million followers on Instagram and over 12 million followers on Twitter and could not get a bill heard in a committee full of her friends is a slap in the face. This is really a wasted opportunity I think, but I don’t blame Pelosi and crew on this one.
AOC tripped onto the scene over 3 years ago and since her surprise election, she has assumed that she speaks for America. Of course, she does not but no one has told her that yet. The lack of respect that the speaker and her fellow colleagues have afforded her on even entertaining a bill of hers should be a loud ringing bell for Cortez.
Hopefully, this new session will give her the opportunity to get something passed.
Or not.
