There comes a time in a story that is as fast-moving as the Jussie Smollet one, that you need to slow down, take a deep breath and look for that one nugget of humor that helps keep the crazy at bay.

Enter Representative Maxine Waters.

Now before we get to the Marvelous Maxine, Red State writers have been all over this story from the beginning. Here are just some samples.

As you can see this story has so many facets to it that it’s hard to keep up. Luckily though, the interweb is a magical place that stories are there waiting for you when you are ready to read them. That is why this lil nugget of a story about Maxine Waters is just about as fun to read based on her history of being wrong.

Seems that Maxine would be a tad bit disappointed if Jussie were lying. Get out the crying towel.

According to Variety …

Maxine Waters said she “would be disappointed” if it’s proven that her friend Jussie Smollett staged his own attack.

Speaking with Variety‘s Marc Malkin on Thursday at Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood Awards, the U.S. representative from California said, “If in fact it’s a hoax, of course I would be disappointed.”

Smollett faces one felony count of filing a false police report.

I know you can’t see me right now but my shocked face is in full force being a politician like Waters being disappointed in someone lying. That is only reserved for politicians lying to constituents. What is the world coming too?

This is, of course, a bit of a change from her previous stance when she already knew who was behind the alleged attack of Jussie before the charges last Thursday.

Donald Trump.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said President Trump is responsible for the attack on gay ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett in an interview with ‘The Grio.’ Waters said Trump’s “dog whistling” is “emboldening” people.

“It’s coming from the president of the United States. He’s dog whistling every day. He’s separating and dividing, and he’s basically emboldening those folks who feel this way,” Waters said.

So the 45th President of the United States, Donald J Trump, while trying to build a wall ALSO was behind two Nigerians hired and paid by check to attack poor Jussie? I can’t wait for the Oliver Stone conspiracy flick to break this all down for me.

However more rational minds might take issue with Maxine’s take here. While Jussie Smollett has the right of innocence until proven guilty, the case laid out by the Cook County prosecutor looks pretty solid. They did not leave a lot to the imagination and it does look bleak for Jussie.

What we are absolutely sure of is that Donald Trump had zero to do with emboldening anyone to commit this attack and he does not have a dog thus he does not have a dog whistle. Maxine is relying on tired talking points that she regurgitates as often as A.O.C. does tide pods. Neither is a really good look.

I hope whoever is in charge of Maxine this week and the months to follow will have her prepared to be disappointed in a way she has not been in while. She rushed to judgment, had her heart broke and now all that is left is coming up with another way to somehow blame Donald Trump.
