Many things can be said about Donald Trump and one of those things is that he has been surprisingly pro-life.

One of the rules here to write at Red State is that you must support the pro-life position. Contrary to some scuttlebutt around the internet it is the only rule to be a front page contributor here. Now I did not vote for President Trump in 2016 and the deciding factor for me was that I did not believe that he was pro-life. Politicians running on the GOP side of the aisle do give great speeches BEFORE elections but seem to not deliver once they have had the honor of being an elected representative.

Well, in this issue, Donald J. Trump has proven me wrong. Happily.

The newest development according to The Hill…

Family planning clinics that provide abortions or refer patients for abortions will not be eligible for certain federal funds under a new rule finalized by the Trump administration Friday.

Under the rule, women’s health clinics must be “physically and financially” separate from abortion providers to be eligible for Title X Family Planning grants, which fund organizations providing reproductive health services to low-income women.

Clinics will also not be allowed to refer women to other facilities for abortions, or promote or support abortion as a method of family planning.

This has been a long time coming and was covered by my colleague Streiff back in May of 2018 here Trump Administration Will Use A Reagan-Era Rule To Strike At Planned Parenthood’s Federal Gravy Train.

Unfortunately as is mentioned by Streiff piece above, this is a slow process and not nearly as much as pro-life supporters are hoping for. There is simply no Constitutional right for Planned Parenthood to receive federal dollars when other clinics provide health care for women and do not provide abortions at their facilities. I truly wish more had been done from Jan 2018 until the GOP gave up the gavel in the House this past Jan to defund this corrupt organization.

Yet, once again, POTUS 45 has defied my expectations by moving tax dollars away from an organization not allowing unborn children to be able to exercise their God-given right to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Baby steps are better than no steps at all.
