President Trump has decided to replace Secretary of Defense James Mattis before Mattis scheduled Feb 28th departure date announced last week in his resignation letter.
According to AXIOS…
Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan will become the acting secretary on January 1, President Trump tweeted on Sunday.
This undoubtedly is in response to the praise Mattis has gotten since his announcement and the media speculation that the former general turned defense chief gave Trump a bit of a backhand verbal slap on the way out the door.
The new intern Sec of Defense, Patrick Shanahan, has been the deputy under Mattis and was mentioned last week as a possible replacement for the outgoing defense chief.
