Melania Trump Has the Perfect Clapback to the Media's Latest Weird Obsession

The media has been awfully interested in the women around President Donald Trump lately.

You could say they've been too interested.

It started with their bizarre fascination with Trump's executive assistant, Natalie Harp, who was thrust into the national spotlight after Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) decided to make a gross insinuation about her relationship with the president.

They've been doing everything they can to pick apart Harp's job, her loyalty to Trump, the fact that she carries around a portable printer – no facet of her life has been spared. The Atlantic even dropped a piece Thursday entitled, "Now Everyone Knows Natalie Harp." (Yes, because you all decided that needed to happen to the poor woman.)

The legacy media has been way too invested in someone else's professional relationship, and it's pretty weird that they have nothing better to do.

As an added subtext to the Natalie Harp histrionics, the media also reverted to one of their favorite Trump "gotchas": where is Melania? The First Lady, it turns out, had been spending time with the couple's son, Barron, while he was on summer break from college. She had been an active part of the America 250 celebrations and has spent the weeks since attending to both her White House obligations and her family duties.

And, honestly, maybe she wanted to stay away from all the construction happening at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? She certainly wasn't completely absent from the scene, with her office announcing Monday that she had facilitated her 34th reunion between a Ukrainian child and their family.

During her husband's second term, the First Lady has been very selective of her White House projects and her presence on those occasions has really packed a punch.

And such was the case Thursday when she participated in a Rose Garden event and wasted no time acknowledging all the breathless concern about her whereabouts, saying, "I heard you missed me."

“I heard you missed me,” she said alongside President Trump at a Rose Garden event for her “Fostering the Future” initiative.

“Here I am,” she added to laughter and applause from the audience.

She was back at the White House to promote her "Fostering the Future" initiative ahead of this weekend's IndyCar Freedom 250. During the event, IndyCar and Fox Sports announced a donation of $2 million to fund scholarships for foster children at Indiana University and Purdue University.

The First Lady hasn't exactly been resting on her laurels, it would seem. And she had a special escort to the Rose Garden podium.

Melania has always had a knack for saying very little and still making her point perfectly. She showed up, gently mocked the media’s obsession, then turned the spotlight right back on the foster kids and their futures.
