Trump to Leakers: We Have Plenty of Missiles, but Your Supply of Freedom Is About to Dwindle

President Trump returned to the White House Wednesday night after spending a few days out west touting his economic agenda and stumping for Republican candidates ahead of November's midterms (and saving a little boy from falling off the stage!). And it seems like he had a few things he wanted to get off his mind, so he jumped on Truth Social in the wee hours of Thursday morning to make those thoughts known.

No, wrote the president, the United States is not running out of munitions, despite media reports to the contrary. And, yes, he will hunt down and prosecute whoever leaked the misinformation.

Media outlets ran with a story earlier this week claiming that the U.S. had "depleted" its supply of long-range missiles after several months of bombings in Iran. Here's CBS, quoting information it received from "two sources with direct knowledge of the matter":

The U.S. has used nearly all of its global stockpile of long-range precision missiles during the war with Iran, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter tell CBS News.
Specifically, the U.S. has used virtually all of its Army Tactical Missile Systems, known as ATACMS, and Precision Strike Missiles, the sources said. Reuters was first to report that the U.S. had used "virtually all" of its long-range precision missiles during Operation Epic Fury.

To the contrary, said Trump, "The U.S. has massive amounts of “munitions,” especially of certain types. Additionally, large amounts are being manufactured and shipped to the U.S. as needed. Defense companies are building the largest number of plants and factories in our country’s history."

And, added the president, those "two sources with direct knowledge of the matter" who shopped the story to the press are being "hunted down" right now for their "treasonous statements" and should expect "long term jail sentences" in their future.

RedState's Ward Clark wrote earlier this week about the ongoing narrative in the press that the U.S.'s arsenal of weapons has been exhausted.

Should we be concerned? Well, when there's a war on, we should always be concerned with our armed forces' weapons stocks. Weapons and ammo stocks aren't a cornucopia. And the more sophisticated weapons, like the Army Tactical Missile Systems and Precision Strike Missiles mentioned here, take longer to replenish.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has been denying these reports since earlier this summer, telling CBS News' Margaret Brennan back in June, "That is a manufactured story that the media wants to peddle and ultimately our stockpiles are great, and they're only getting stronger."

It's clear someone – or several someones – is trying to make trouble for the president in the lead up to the midterm elections. In addition to the avalanche of stories about dwindling military stockpiles, the press has run with a story that President Trump blew up at his advisors at a Camp David meeting over his so-called "frustration over the Iran war."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt put that story to rest, tweeting, "This B.S. story was shopped to many outlets by someone clearly out to disparage the Secretary, for whatever reason. Unfortunately for them, the President loves the Secretary and thinks he’s doing a tremendous job. FAKE NEWS!"
