As the Senate begins its last week of work before the summer recess, several big agenda items still need to get done. One, of course, is passing the SAVE America Act, which Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) insists is DOA and will need to be watered down and stuffed into a reconciliation package.
Another is Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche's nomination to be the next attorney general of the United States. As RedState has previously reported, two lame-duck senators – Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) – have personal animus towards President Trump and have acted as human speed bumps to Blanche's confirmation process.
Besides their aforementioned animus, their main sticking point is the Anti-Weaponization Fund set up by the Department of Justice (DOJ) back in May to provide monetary relief and formal apologies to Americans who could prove they were wrongfully targeted and harmed by the Biden administration.

Cornyn and Tillis objected to the lack of congressional oversight in the distribution of the fund's $1.8 billion in assets, and have used that as a means of preventing the president from getting his guy, Blanche, confirmed. Despite Blanche's repeated assurances that the fund was not moving forward, the lame-duck cabal continued to use it as an excuse to stall Blanche's nomination.
This has led to many fiery messages from President Trump on Truth Social taking Cornyn and Tillis to task for weaponizing the Anti-Weaponization Fund and stalling the forward momentum of Blanche's confirmation process.
On Sunday evening, Blanche made the bold move of rescinding the order that created the fund, thus neutralizing Cornyn and Tillis' main line of attack.

The Justice Department commented, "Although the Acting Attorney General has repeatedly advised that the Fund is not moving forward, and the Department has repeatedly represented to district courts that the Fund is not moving forward, today’s Order officially rescinds the May 18, 2026 Order."
In response to Blanche's move, Cornyn's office remarked, "Sen. Cornyn has reached an agreement with the Department of Justice, which will be issuing a formal order permanently terminating the anti-weaponization fund and making clear in a binding written document that the scope of the audit settlement is limited to only the plaintiffs, including the President, and the IRS."
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has now scheduled a vote on Blanche's nomination for Tuesday at 9 AM EDT.
