Donald Trump Has the Chance to Do Something Extremely Funny to Abigail Spanberger

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not advocating for anyone to be removed from the Cabinet; all I'm saying is that, if such a replacement needs to be made, President Trump has the chance to do something seriously funny to Virginia's new governor.

Democrat Abigail Spanberger hasn't even been in office for three weeks at this point, but she has already taken a hammer to much of the common-sense policies of her predecessor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, such has having the commonwealth's law enforcement agencies assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with removing illegals from the streets.

As I reported yesterday here on the pages of RedState, Spanberger on Wednesday took a sledgehammer to a Youngkin policy that enabled the four state law enforcement agencies – the Virginia State Police, the Virginia Department of Corrections, the Virginia Conservation Police, and the Virginia Marine Police – to aid the federal government in its efforts to deport illegal aliens. She was merely keeping her campaign promise to "oppose any mandates that require localities to do the work of ICE officials."

Youngkin had joined forces with the Trump administration in February of last year when he signed 287(g) agreements that deputized state law enforcement agents to detain illegals and hand them over to ICE. He said at the time, “Dangerous criminal illegal immigrants should not be let back into our communities to assault, rape and murder. They should be sent back where they came from."

Make sense to me, but keeping citizens safe isn't Spanberger's thing, apparently.

Here's How Donald Trump Can Save Virginia

She's also nuked a bunch of Youngkin's appointees to state university boards, and is expected to sign off on a host of orders and bills that would do everything from gutting education reforms that kept politics out of the classroom to enacting gun control measures that would seriously challenge the Second Amendment.

But, it's her action this week to place the welfare of illegals above the safety of Virginians where the opportunity to stick it to Spanberger exists for the president. She was elected, in part, because of the left's insatiable need to tear down Donald Trump; she and her gal pal up in New Jersey enjoyed the largesse of Trump's enemies who were desperate for a win after the Harris/Walz electoral spanking of 2024. And she's now smuggly thumbing her nose at the president and will do whatever she can to oppose him; Trump hasn't seemed to pay her much mind yet, but I suspect he will get there eventually since she's helping to run the Dems' revenge tour.

There is some evidence that Trump is questioning Kristi Noem's ability to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He sent his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minneapolis to de-escalate things on the ground as the administration enacts its deportation and border security plan. Publicly, the White House has voiced its ongoing support for Noem, but there's been talk for a while now that none other than Glenn Youngkin could be in the running to be her replacement.

This would be a win on so many levels. Not only does placing Youngkin atop the DHS ensure that the agency has solid leadership, the move would have a pretty high troll factor, which has got to be appealing to the president.

Spanberger would be left seething as Youngkin once again takes control of removing illegals from Virginia communities. Homan, who is himself a Virginia resident, has said federal law enforcement will happily work around Democrat leaders who refuse to cooperate, commenting, "They’re not going to stop us. They can stand on the sidelines and watch. Shame on them, but they’re not going to stop us from doing this mission.”

The optics would be *chef's kiss* – Youngkin, wearing a DHS fleece vest, traversing across the commonwealth giving press conferences and watching as illegals are perp-walked into detainment centers. It would be glorious, not to mention a real shot in the arm for demoralized Virginians.

And honestly, if Trump doesn’t do it for policy reasons, he could always do it for the memes. Because nothing would irritate Abigail Spanberger and her fellow Democrats more than Glenn Youngkin showing back up, smiling politely, and getting the job done.
