DNC's Botched Israel Vote Proves Democrat Party Has the Moral Backbone of a Chocolate Eclair

For weeks, some in the left-leaning media have been hyping a looming showdown over Israel at the Democrat National Committee's summer meeting being held this week in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There were two dueling resolutions going head-to-head; one involved a two-state solution and arms sales, while the other called for an arms embargo and suspension of military aid.

This was it! The big moment when Democrats were finally going to decide if they side with the antisemites rampaging across college campuses—who, let's face it, are the face of today's Democrat Party—or with those who at least pay lip service to continuing with arms sales to Israel with the goal of eventually arriving at a two-state solution.

Here's how one outlet framed the fight:

But the twin Gaza resolutions have substantial differences. One urges a ceasefire and a return of hostages held by Hamas; the other asks the party to commit to “suspension of military aid to Israel” and its elected leaders to support establishing a Palestinian state.

That resolution would be a “gift to Republicans” and would “embolden Israel’s adversaries,” Democratic Majority for Israel president Brian Romick told Semafor.

Well, Tuesday was vote day, and they totally botched it. It's kind of insane what happened.

First, the DNC resolutions committee rejected the measure calling to suspend arms sales to Israel. Okay, so that might indicate that enough party members still support Israel, meaning the second resolution had a good chance of being approved. We'll never know, however, because DNC Chairman Ken Martin, the author of the pro-Israel resolution, proceeded to pull it from consideration, saying the party needs to "keep working through" the issue.

The Harris That Won’t Go Away: DNC Continues to Pay Kamala’s Crushing $15M Election Debt

In the words of my husband's favorite band: if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. The DNC made a choice, and it's a pretty obvious one: don't tick off the green-haired freaks and racist sign wavers that are the base of our party. We don't like them when they're mad (and they're always mad, especially when it comes to Israel).

True to form, Allison Minnerly, the DNC member from Florida who authored the failed measure, wasn't pleased and aimed her ire at Martin.

“I think that there could have been more intentional conversation sooner,” Minnerly said. “I do think that his decision to pull his resolution now might reflect, maybe, some inner thoughts and fears that even the establishment Democratic Party, here at the DNC, is not aligned with the base and trying to avoid that conversation because it’s already created a problem with the party.”

Sophia Danenberg, a DNC member from the state of Washington, offered her take on the party not standing more firmly against Israel: “I worry that we are losing our future as a Democratic Party by not being courageous on this issue.”

It's a race to the bottom amongst the so-called leaders of the Democrat Party, isn't it? It's hard to pick who's the weakest amongst the lot. On the one hand, there's Ken Martin, who's overseeing a party hemorrhaging both voters and cash. On the other hand, there's Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi's hand-picked successor who's busy avoiding the topic of Zohran Mamdani.

By the way, I didn't make up the "moral backbone of a chocolate eclair" description, but I love it dearly and use it often to describe the more feckless among us, usually Democrats, Bulwarkians and the founders of the Lincoln Project. The saying is actually attributed to Teddy Roosevelt, who supposedly used it to describe William McKinley, but I got it from a comedian. And it's an apt description of the DNC's failure to support America's ally.

Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
