Report: Jeff Sessions Is Desperate to Get Back in Trump's Favor

This is so sad. What has Jeff Sessions been reduced to?

He was a U.S. senator. He was an accomplished man, but now, he’s little more than a groveling toady.

Worse than that, he’s acting like a battered spouse, attempting to get on his abuser’s good side.

A new report suggests that Attorney General Sessions is so broken from being forced to exist in the badlands, outside of the Trump circle, that he’s going out of his way to gain some positive notice from the president.

He’s made it a priority within the Justice Department to step and fetch over every Trump tweet, making Trump’s concerns a priority.

He’s also reportedly asking that his allies within the White House make sure Trump is following the media coverage of DOJ moves, and that Trump is kept aware of what he’s doing for him.

Are you pleased with me, Daddy?

There’s something kind of sickly uncomfortable with that.

I mean, I get trying to please the boss. Nothing like a little brown-nosing to keep your career path on a nicely upward trajectory.

Sessions drew the ire of Trump and his [other] sycophants when he tried to remove the appearance of impropriety and recused himself from the Russia investigation, allowing for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to appoint Robert Mueller as special counsel.

“He’s one of the most active Cabinet secretaries there is,” an administration official told the Post. “He’s done a fine job. Does it wash away the sin of recusal? I don’t think so.”

The “sin” of recusal?

Yeah. Forgive me Trump, for I have sinned against thee.

He did what he felt he had to do, considering he may find himself wrapped up in the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, and possible collusion or obstruction on the part of Trump and his team.

People like Kellyanne Conway and the newly-toxic Steve Bannon have urged Trump to look at Jeff Sessions’ puppy-dog face and take him back.

They point to the crackdown on White House leaks, successful policies on illegal immigration and targeting of gangs as issues that the Justice Department has done well in addressing under Sessions.

So far, their pleas have fallen on callous and deaf ears.

Those Republicans acting as Trump’s attack force against the Russia investigation and U.S. intelligence agencies are actively calling for Sessions to be booted and replaced with someone who will be more willing to acquiesce to Trump’s wishes, as far as firing Robert Mueller and shutting down the investigation.

Trump has, so far, said that he has no plans to fire Mueller.

That’s all well and good, but for now, it appears he only keeps Sessions around to have someone to kick when he doesn’t like the way things are going. Trump has never shown loyalty to anyone that wasn’t serving his good. Sessions was Trump’s first and most ardent supporter from the Senate. He never wavered, and helped carve out a place for Trump to shine in the southern states. You’d think that would count for something.
