This would be a prime opportunity for Steve Bannon to exact his revenge upon President Trump, “Javanka,” and anyone else in the administration that contributed to his downfall.
It would be, if he had anything, that is.
The ousted and disgraced former White House chief strategist/Breitbart News guru has been called up to give testimony before the House Intelligence Committee next Tuesday.
Reuters reported Bannon’s expected appearance before the committee Thursday hours after reports that Bannon has hired Washington lawyer Bill Burck to help him prepare for his testimony.
Bannon’s hiring of Burck is reportedly solely for the hearing and is not related to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
House Intel requested testimony from both Bannon and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski a month ago. Since Bannon’s schedule suddenly cleared up, he gets to be first of the two at bat.
Bannon served as White House chief strategist until August of 2017, when John Kelly was brought in as Chief of Staff and the Great House Cleaning began.
Recently, after his incendiary comments about the Trump White House were revealed in a new book, he was forced out as the head of Breitbart News, as well.
Because Bannon wasn’t a part of the Trump team until late in the campaign, it’s very likely that the questions from House Intel will center around the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
What he could possibly tell them is kind of sketchy. How much of the decision was he in on?
Apparently, the belief is that he has something to offer, or he wouldn’t have been called up.
After the lashing he’s taken on social media by the red caps, it’ll be interesting to see if a couple of weeks has given him time to stew or settle with his new role as an outcast from MAGAville.
