Actor Mark Hamill Dishes on the latest "Star Wars" Installment: This Movie SUCKS! (VIDEO)

Ok. He didn’t really say that, and given the box office numbers, I’m sure that makes it a bit easier to take.

What actor Mark Hamill, who is and forever will be known for his iconic role in the popular franchise, is that the “Luke Skywalker” presented in “Star Wars: the Last Jedi” is not his Luke Skywalker.

Hamill apparently was having some creative differences with director Rian Johnson about who Luke Skywalker was, at this point in the story.

“He’s not my Luke Skywalker,” Hamill, who originated the part in the iconic space opera four decades ago, proclaimed of his role in the new movie.

For Hamill, the idea of Luke Skywalker in hiding just didn’t sit comfortably, and he confronted Johnson about the problem he was having.

“I said to Rian, I said ‘Jedis don’t give up.’ I mean, even if he had a problem, he would maybe take a year to try and regroup, but if he made a mistake he would try and right that wrong, so right there, we had a fundamental difference, but, it’s not my story anymore,” Hamill, 66, said in an interview posted by Spanish-language movie site SensaCine recently. “It’s somebody else’s story, and Rian needed me to be a certain way to make the ending effective.”

Hamill added: “I almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he’s Jake Skywalker, he’s not my Luke Skywalker.”

That’s a shame. It’s actually the way I imagine Norman Reedus is going to be in ten years or so, when they do the first big screen version of “The Walking Dead,” one day.

“Daryl Dixon would never wear paisley.”

I think when you play a character that becomes such a major part of your life and your success, you can get territorial, which is what this sounds like.

Still, Hamill doesn’t mean to leave things uncivil.

“I still haven’t accepted it completely, but it’s only a movie,” Hamill said. “I hope people like it. I hope they don’t get upset. And I came to really believe that Rian was the exact man that they needed for this job.”

Only a movie?

Geeks everywhere just passed out, clutching their light sabers.
