Jeff Sessions has requested the resignation of the 46 remaining Obama appointed US Attorneys:
Many of the federal prosecutors who were nominated by former President Barack Obama have already left their positions, but the nearly four dozen who stayed on in the first weeks of the Trump administration have been asked to leave “in order to ensure a uniform transition,” Justice Department spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said.
“Until the new U.S. attorneys are confirmed, the dedicated career prosecutors in our U.S. attorney’s offices will continue the great work of the department in investigating, prosecuting and deterring the most violent offenders,” she said in a statement.
This signals that the confirmation of Rod Rosenstein as deputy attorney general is expected in the very near future because the current deputy AG is the US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Dana Boente. He’s the guy handling the Russia investigation. The other wild card in this is the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara. Bharara met with Trump back in November and seemed to have been given an offer to keep his job. That was then, this is now, I guess.
