Today Breitbart runs a story titled “Exclusive: On Eve of South Carolina Vote, Nation’s ICE Officers Detail How Marco Rubio Betrayed Them.” The lede:
ICE Council President, Crane represents the nation’s approximately 5,800 frontline ICE officers, agents and personnel who are responsible for enforcing America’s immigration laws in all 50 states and U.S. territories. For the first time ever, Crane details his behind-the-scenes interactions with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as Crane sought to protect the nation’s ICE officers and national security.
Marco Rubio was on with Neil Cavuto today and was questioned about the story
CAVUTO: There are ICE officials now who are saying that your push for enforcement on the border hasn’t been consistent and when you were part of that Gang of Eight you were not making it a priority. When they questioned, as Chris Crane who ran this council group of officers said, that “not one of the changes we suggested it was made to the bill before senator Rubio introduced it.” That he tried and failed with you, repeatedly, that your heart wasn’t in it.
RUBIO: Yeah, number one that’s not true and he’s not an ICE official he’s the head of a union and it’s being reported on a website that’s not a credible source. It’s the same website that said, Neil, that you guys gave me the questions to the debate because one of the members of my staff has family members who are…
CAVUTO: So you don’t get any credence or his remarks any credence?
RUBIO: We don’t even we don’t even credential them for our events. This is the same website that reported Fox News, and that you and you guys and your debate gave me the questions to the debate so I can prepare. You know that that’s not true. So I did I literally don’t even talk about the things they report because they’re basically conspiracy theories and oftentimes manipulated and that individual is not an ICE official, he’s the head of a union.
I’m glad someone had finally done this. I wouldn’t go so far as to characterize Breitbart as a conspiracy site, they aren’t Infowars.com or Whirled Nuts Daily or Prisonplanet.com, but they are a propaganda site. During this primary season they have been so uncritically in the bag for Donald Trump that one really wonders what is going on. I thought National Review’s grotesque selling of Mitt Romney as a conservative in 2012 was bad, but Kathryn Jean Lopez was the soul of fairness in comparison to Breitbart. For instance,
please note the by-line.
Then you have:
The only logical conclusion that you can provide for this, that doesn’t involve pay-to-play, is that Breitbart has the same journalistic integrity as Pravda under Uncle Joe Stalin and the same respect for the intelligence of their readers.
