Sometimes you can’t make this stuff up.
Murphy, is a liberal Democrat from Florida. He is also running for US Senate. So it comes as no surprise that he would cheerfully sell out America’s national security interests in exchange for political advance. Therefore this,
I’m supporting the nuclear deal with Iran as the best available option to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. http://t.co/tD8TIAU58U
— [mc_name name=’Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-FL)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’M001191′ ] (@RepMurphyFL) August 31, 2015
was not a shock.
What was interesting is his statement of reasoning:
“I believe deeply in the unbreakable bond between the United States and Israel. This debate has proven to me that America and Israel are fortunate to have so many passionate, diverse voices who all want the same things: a nuclear-free Iran, a secure Israel, and peace in our time. In the interest of all three, I will be supporting this deal and voting against a Resolution of Disapproval in September.”
Where have we heard THAT before?
As some level, one has to think that Murphy made a Freudian slip. The term ‘peace in our time’ has been a code for appeasement, especially appeasement destined to end in war, since 1938. It is hard to believe that even someone at toolish as Murphy could have accidentally come upon that construction.
Whatever its provenance, it is a term that is both apt (because this agreement with Iran is nothing short of an ill conceived exercise in appeasement) and prescient (because war will be the inevitable result). At any rate, Murphy has demonstrate that he has the duplicity and lack of intelligence necessary to hold a seat in the US Senate.
