The Obama administration says there are no known violations of the country’s fetal tissue laws among government researchers or the companies that supply the tissue.
“Currently, we know of no violation of these laws in connection with the research done at our agencies,” Jim Esquea, assistant secretary for legislation at HHS, wrote in a letter to Sens. [mc_name name=’Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’E000295′ ] and [mc_name name=’Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’B000575′ ], obtained by POLITICO. “Furthermore … we have confirmed that HHS researchers working with fetal tissue obtained the tissue from non-profit organizations that provided assurances to us that they are in compliance with all applicable legal requirements.
But the carefully worded response indicates that very little attention was given to the subject. The inquiry was done by email. It relies on self-certification. It doesn’t even appear to be true, or even plausible, as companies like StemExpress are known to supply fetal tissue to Temple University (it has 144 HHS research grants). The practice of using StemExpress is nearly universal:
The National Institutes of Health spent $76 million on research using fetal tissue in 2014 with grants to more than 50 universities, including Columbia, Harvard, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, Yale and the University of California in Berkeley, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco. It expects to spend the same amount in 2015 and 2016.
…
Many researchers buy tissue from two small California companies. StemExpress, a five-year-old business based in Placerville, Calif., describes itself as “the largest provider of maternal blood and fetal tissue globally.” It also says it offers “special discounts to the academic community.”
As StemExpress is not a ‘non-profit’ the entire exercise seems to be calculated to delay and obfuscate.
This is hardly a surprise. If there is one thing the Obama administration believes in other that the aggrandization of power it is infanticide. One of the few votes Illinois Senator Barack Obama made was one allowing an abortionist to kill a child that was born alive despite the best efforts of the abortionist. This is a man who spoke at a Planned Parenthood witch’s sabbath conference and said:
…I want you to know that you’ve also got a President who’s going to be right there with you fighting every step of the way. (Applause.)
Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you.
And while this administration was defending the indefensible and more than likely lying about it to Congress (I mean, hey, today is a day of the week ending in ‘y’ isn’t it?) they were threatening states that have cancelled Medicaid contracts with Planned Parenthood despite the fact that no woman in America needs to go to Planned Parenthood for anything other than an abortion (for a look at how Planned Parenthood has lied about its non-abortions services read this.)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a unit of HHS, has notified Alabama and Louisiana, which have taken action to terminate their Medicaid provider agreements with Planned Parenthood, that they may be in conflict with federal law, HHS said. The agency said that, by restricting providers, women could lose access to critical preventive care, such as cancer screenings.
Under this administration we can not only expect Planned Parenthood to be shielded, we can expect active federal intervention to stymie state investigations into criminal conduct.
