Yesterday, a California Superior Court judge threw out a temporary restraining order  requested by the tissue harvesting company called StemExpress in an effort to stop the release of Center for Medical Progress video that is widely expected to be damning.

Today, StemExpress announced it will not longer do business with Planned Parenthood:

StemExpress, one of the tissue companies that works with Planned Parenthood, is cutting its ties with the women’s health organization after a series of sting videos that have prompted congressional inquiries.

“We value our various partnerships but, due to the increased questions that have arisen over the past few weeks, we feel it prudent to terminate activities with Planned Parenthood,” the company said in a statement. “While we value our business relationship with Planned Parenthood, that work represents a small percentage of our overall business activity and we must focus our limited resources on resolving these inquiries.”

The small biomedical tissue procurement company is distancing itself from Planned Parenthood after finding itself tangentially linked to what abortion opponents allege is Planned Parenthood’s illegal trafficking of fetal tissue and organs.

At first blush, this looks like a sure winner of the too-little-too-late award. StemExpress is heavily implicated in the CMP videos.While their actions look more callous than those of Planned Parenthood, in actuality the charges of criminal misconduct against StemExpress, at this point, are minimal. Their consenting process seems skeevy and they may have ignored it altogether in some cases but thus far that hasn’t been seen on video.

Perhaps StemExpress sees a smorgasbord of Congressional hearings and state criminal investigations brewing and simply wants to take the fastest way out: hey, we may collect baby parts for sale but even we were appalled by what we saw.

If StemExpress is doing this, you can bet other tissue harvesters are having the same thoughts about working with Planned Parenthood. If so, CMP has won a significant victory in the struggle to end this barbarous practice.
