Failure Theater presents Planned Parenthood edition

mystery science

For two weeks now we’ve all been talking about how reprehensible and evil Planned Parenthood is. If you follow life issues, you didn’t need the two videos of alleged doctors haggling over the price of baby parts to know this. If you were under the impression that Planned Parenthood was that nice, friendly white lady who gave contraceptives to minorities and minor children and poor whites then you might be surprised. There seems to be about eight states (Arizona, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, Indiana, Ohio and Georgia) that have announced investigations. Congress has said it is investigating. Mitch McConnell says

[mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ] calls a video that has Planned Parenthood under fire “very, very disturbing,” and the Senate Majority Leader is again questioning the agency’s federal funding.

McConnell answered a range of questions following a speech to the Bullitt Co. Chamber of Commerce here in Shepherdsville, including whether he supports defunding Planned Parenthood.

The organization is under fire following the release of an undercover video, apparently showing the agency’s medical director casually discussing harvesting and allegedly selling the organs of aborted babies.

Sen. Rand Paul and others say they’ll now work to defund Planned Parenthood, and McConnell signaled support.

“What we saw was very, very disturbing. I’ve not been a fan of funding them in the past, and that remains my position,” he said.

Talk is cheap.

There is an easy way to tell if Congress is serious about dealing with Planned Parenthood or if it is just talking to mollify us rubes while the adults get on with the real business of… well, after the Iran nuclear deal I’m not really sure what their real business is.

The klepotocratic grab bag of goodies that is the Highway Bill comes up for a vote in the Senate. This bill provides baksheesh to every conceivable political officeholder in the nation AND it doesn’t have to pass… by that I mean failing to pass it doesn’t shut down the government.

Mitch McConnell has already said he will allow an extension of the Export-Import Bank to be attached to the Highway Bill as a way of putting foes of the that irreparably corrupt institution in the position of stalling the Highway Bill or agreeing to funding the Ex-Im Bank. [mc_name name=’Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’P000603′ ] wants to add an amendment to the bill to defund Planned Parenthood.

We all know how this movie ends. McConnell will not allow Paul to attach something divisive to a great bipartisan spending spree. He will attach the divisive Ex-Im Bank extenstion because, well, bipartisan spending spree. Congress will hold hearings. Members will cluck disapprovingly. And next year Planned Parenthood will be right back at its normal place: suckling at the federal teat. It is Failure Theater at its finest.
