A clear majority of the GOP caucus made itself clear. Not only do they not object to Obama’s use of executive orders to implement amnesty, they are furious at being exposed for the rank hypocrites that they are.

This is the story. A gutless House agreed to fund Obama’s amnesty program. They didn’t have to, they chose to. All the bull**** about the US Citizenship and Immigrations Services being “self-funded” and immune to budget cuts was refuted in an extensive report by the Congressional Research Service. This excuse was simply cover for the House GOP leadership. They have since adopted the “Wimpy strategy” of fighting amnesty next month in exchange for fully funding amnesty today. When the bill arrived in the Senate, Texas [mc_name name=’Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001098′ ] wanted to make the point that the president does not have the authority to rewrite US statutes based on imperial whim. He forced the Senate to vote on a point of order on the Constitutionality of the president’s actions.

Ted Cruz’s proxy vote against President Barack Obama’s executive action ended in an overwhelming defeat Saturday night, splitting the GOP in half.

Not that Cruz didn’t try.

“It allows Republicans to also show they are committed to ending Obama’s amnesty once and for all in the next Congress. If we agree it is indeed unconstitutional, we have no business funding it when the GOP controls Congress,” the Texas Republican said in a statement ahead of that vote. “The Constitution matters, and we must defend it. That is why we have fought so hard to ensure this vote.”

Cruz’s point of order failed 22-74, with about 20 Republicans joining with the Democrats to oppose it, including Minority Leader [mc_name name=’Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’M000355′ ], R-Ky. and Cruz’s fellow Texan, Republican Whip [mc_name name=’Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001056′ ].

What, may you ask, are GOP Senators using for cover to justify their duplicity?

When Cruz sought to raise the same point-of-order on Friday, the parliamentary timing was not yet correct, and Cruz told CQ Roll Call that he would return, likely in the wee hours of Sunday morning. In fact, an agreement reached to expedite the processing of the Senate’s business put that vote Saturday night, just ahead of a vote to clear the spending bill for President Barack Obama.

Incredibly, they are claiming that Cruz is wrong because they’d already passed the CRomnibus bill funding amnesty so the amnesty executive order was moot. Take it away Tennessee’s favorite son, [mc_name name=’Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’C001071′ ]:

“‎While the president’s executive actions on immigration are reprehensible and deserve a strong response, I value the oath I took to support and defend the Constitution too much to exploit it for political expediency,” said Corker. “The Constitution gives Congress the power to fund the government so to assert that the House-passed spending bill is unconstitutional is not only inaccurate but irresponsible.”

This is the sound of a freakin rat with his tail caught in a trap. This is the sound of a man who is angry over being forced to reveal his own lack of guts. This is the Roll Call of shame:
