It didn’t but it should have.

If you don’t know it, Politifact is one of the pseudo-unbiased and self-proclaimed “fact checkers” which try to convince the unwary that the evaluate claims by politicians by any other standard than the latest press release issued by the Obama administration.

During the 2012 campaign season the fact checking dishonesty had grown so intense that I threatened to ban anyone who referenced Glenn Kessler or Politifact in the the comments because of our long standing prohibition on deliberate lying to win debate points [see Quote a Factchecker Earn a Ban].

So it was more than a little shocking when Politifact, without doubt the most recklessly dishonest “fact checking” group anywhere/anytime, labeled Obama’s “if you like your plan, you can keep your plan” as the Lie of the Year.

At first blush, one has to give Politifact credit for acknowledging what has to be one of the most blatant, in-your-face lies ever told by an American president. In fact, this simply highlights Politifact’s own hackery.

When you look at the “Related Rulings” section on this page:

You see that the claim “If you’re one of the more than 250 million Americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance” is rated “half true.” When you follow the link you find it is only half true because Americans change and lose insurance all the time, and there is nothing in Obamacare that will cause any problems.

Why are these changes occurring? Some will be made voluntarily by Americans seeking better health care options outside of their employer’s plan, but we think it’s reasonable for Obama to ignore these changes in his calculation.

Other switches will be involuntary. As we have previously noted, many Americans already lose their current health plan for reasons that have nothing to do with the new law. Your employer may change insurance carriers, for instance, or your insurance carrier may unilaterally modify the terms of your plan.

“No. 1, let me just repeat, if you’ve got a health care plan that you like, you can keep it,” Obama said. “All I’m going to do is help you to lower the premiums on it. You’ll still have choice of doctor.”

But people who want to keep their current insurance should be able to do that under Obama’s plan. His description of his plan is accurate, and we rate his statement True.
