Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Red-Hot at RedState
The New York Times report is a desperate last-ditch effort to convince the American public that Joe Biden was at least involved in the process of approving autopen signatures on the many, many pardons he granted in his final days in the Oval Office. Instead, it's raised so many more questions.
This Is The Way: US Attorney Bill Essayli Smacks Down Media 'Hot Take' on ICE Arrest
So when they want to demonize ICE agents, they claim they are "disappearing people" and "kidnapping" them "without identifying themselves." They say this even when you see "Border Patrol" or "ICE" embazoned on what the agents are wearing. And law enforcement arresting or detaining someone isn't "kidnapping" them.
Minnesota Assassin Tears Big Hole in Media’s Portrayal of His Motive, Mentions Tim Walz Again
You know darn well that if the media and Democrats were able to continue smearing the right as being responsible for these assassinations and attempted murders, they'd be covering this story 24/7. Instead, you haven't heard much about Boelter since that letter and his strange hit list were found.

Media Runs With False Narrative On Forced Reset Trigger Lawsuit
I'm not surprised to see the anti-gunners try to spin a loss into a win, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the willingness of local media to just parrot their talking points instead of, you know, doing actual reporting. I'm not sure if this is overt bias by reporters, sheer laziness, or a combination of the two, but either way, their "victory" is still fake news.
When You Are In a Hole, Stop Digging Mr. President...
Will this hurt Trump permanently? Probably not. The issue is not a top 10 one with the public. But it has been with MAGA, and a lot of people feel insulted.
Why Is the Minnesota Shooter Saying Tim Walz Will Cover Up His Real Motive?
According to Boelter, the details that weren’t leaked were about “things that were going on in Minnesota.”
We Know Who Controlled the Biden Autopen...and This Scandal Just Got Worse
There’s no way Biden knew what was going on, given his mental state. This is a circus. Staffers were helming the ship on this, not Biden, though that’s hardly shocking.
BREAKING: An NYT Interview With Biden Just Undermined Thousands of His Late Pardons (A Deep Dive)
If the New York Times’ reporting can be verified by the Trump administration, those pardons and commutations would be in danger.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
The House is back, and we're set to have a busy week on the Hill as the Senate wrestles with the rescission package. There are a handful of meetings/hearings set for Monday:
- House Veterans' Affairs, Technology Modernization Subcommittee — VA Office of Information and Technology Organizational Structure and Priorities
- House Rules — H.R. 1919 – Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act; H.R. 3633 – Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025; S. 1582 – GENIUS Act; H.R. 4016 – Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2026
- House Appropriations, Departments of Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee — Fiscal Year 2026 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Bill
- House Appropriations, Energy and Water Development, and Related Agencies Subcommittee — Fiscal Year 2026 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Bill
White House What's Up
Mid-morning on Monday, President Donald Trump is set to meet with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, in the Oval Office. After that, he'll participate in the White House Faith Office Luncheon in the State Dining Room.
Full Court Press...
We had some more district court craziness on Friday, as Judge Indira Talwani amended her prior temporary restraining order (TRO) on Planned Parenthood funding, in bizarro fashion, and Judge Maame Ewusi-Mensah Frimpong issued a TRO aimed at curtailing ICE immigration enforcement efforts. The appeal has already been filed on the latter, and we'll undoubtedly see some sort of response from the administration on the former before long. Never a dull moment.

Another Day, Another Temporary Restraining Order—CA Judge Kneecaps ICE Efforts in Golden State
I did manage to get the second-to-last (for this term) Skinny on SCOTUS installment complete for those interested. Will have the last one here in the next day or so. After that, well, I'm noodling on a related project to tide us over until next term. Stay tuned.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
We're likely to get some interesting appellate court rulings rolling in on some of the more notable cases.
There will undoubtedly be drama on the Hill this week as the Senate has a Friday deadline on the rescissions package.
And there will be some interesting hearings this week, including this one on Wednesday before the House Homeland Security Committee: “An Inside Job: How NGOs Facilitated the Biden Border Crisis.”
MORNING MUSING
Look, I get it. We all find ways to poke fun at the opposition — sometimes over frivolous things. Something about politics brings out the junior high in many of us. I didn't spend all that much time online over the weekend as I attempted to enjoy my day-and-a-half off and my summertime, but I did notice last evening a bubbling "controversy" regarding...JD's run. That's right, the Left is falling all over itself because there's a video clip of the vice president trot-jogging uphill at Disneyland toward one of his kids.
🚨 LMAO! This video is currently going viral among Democrats who say JD Vance runs awkwardly.

To a normal person, this looks like a dad running uphill in a theme park to his young children.
Lamest scandal ever.
This comes from the same party that ran Tim Walz. pic.twitter.com/79Ntes0HaX
What?! You mean...he didn't bust out in a full-speed sprint like an Olympic track star?! OMG!
Anyone with an ounce of sense (and parenting experience) recognizes this moment for exactly what it is: a parent doing the trot-jog to their kid to hopefully stop them from doing something dumb/dangerous and hurting themselves without freaking them the heck out.
But, I mean, if this is what the Left wants to go with, why don't we put it to the test: Let's see how a foot race between JD Vance and Tim Walz shakes out. Or, heck, even Gavin Newsom, since he seems intent on being a peevish twit about Vance's visit to California. I'd pay good money to see that; wouldn't you?
