Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
It's a strange new world we find ourselves in as Donald Trump makes his way back to the White House. Expect the tantrums to continue apace and the further disintegration of the media, as embodied by Mirna Alsharif.
Shocking Video Shows Biden Staggering Through Sand, Almost Faceplanting—Jill Does Nothing to Help
And how in the hell did Lady Macbeth—Jill Biden—think that he could have continued his campaign and remained in office for four more years? I don’t say this to be funny or snarky, I say it because it’s true: we’ll be lucky if he’s able to continue his duties until January.
President-Elect Trump Names Tom Homan 'Border Czar'
Homan is no-nonsense, matter-of-fact, and, most important, action-oriented. Exactly what Americans expect and need in a Border Czar. No hunting for root causes, and Homan looks like he enjoys rare steaks over word salads.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
The battle for the next Senate majority leader has kicked into high gear, with various factions touting their preference between John Cornyn (R-TX), John Thune (R-SD), and Rick Scott (R-FL) — or, for some, "None of the above." There's been a heavy push on conservative X/Twitter for Scott, seen as the least establishment-y, most MAGA-y of the bunch. With the GOP conference set to meet Wednesday, we'll know soon enough who wins the day.
The House GOP conference is meeting on Wednesday as well, to nominate a candidate for Speaker. Presumably, that will be Mike Johnson (R-LA), though that's no guarantee he'll actually win when they take their formal vote in January. Expect drama (because there most always is).
White House What's Up
Back from his beach workout (man, that was hard to watch), President Joe Biden, along with First Lady Jill, will host veterans at the White House Monday morning in honor of Veterans Day. The pair will then be joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and Second (not a) Gentleman Doug Emhoff at Arlington National Cemetery for the traditional wreath-laying ceremony. For some reason, Biden will then head to Wilmington, Delaware — briefly (schedule has him arriving there at 1:30 pm and departing at 3:30 pm) — before returning to the White House.
Full Court Press...
Tuesday's the day Judge Merchan is set to issue his post-trial ruling on the immunity issue in President-elect Donald Trump's Manhattan criminal case. (Courts are closed today for Veterans Day.) We'll also be watching the Appellate Division closely tomorrow for that much-anticipated ruling in the civil fraud appeal. Could be a very interesting day.
MORNING MUSING
Today, I'll simply express my gratitude to all who've served. What a tremendous debt we owe them for helping preserve our nation for nigh on 250 years. My prayer is that the new administration will help the services reconnect with their core missions and ensure that our active duty members and veterans are afforded the support they so richly deserve.
Special shoutout to my Dad (who passed in 2020). He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. Have always loved this pic of him from Fort Lewis, shortly before he shipped out for Japan.
