Today on Capitol Hill...

The kids may all be back in school, but the critters are still on summer break (for another three weeks), so things remain quiet on the Hill while most (though not all) of the Dems are in Chicago for the DNC.

White House What's Up

After delivering his late-night ~~garble~~ speech at the DNC Monday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill jetted off to Santa Ynez, California for a week of vacation. There are no public events on his calendar for Tuesday. No doubt, he needs to rest up after that...uh...spirited delivery.

The Homestretch

Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are, of course, in Chicago this week for the continuation of the DNC. However, they are stepping away from the Windy City on Tuesday to hold a "DNC watch party" in Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the DNC will feature former President Barack Obama as its keynote speaker Tuesday night. Other rumored speakers include Michelle Obama, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff (interesting, since Kamala won't be in the house), and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

Former President Donald Trump will be in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday to talk about crime and safety, while his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (OH), will be in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to host a news conference also on crime and safety.

Keep an eye on Hunter Biden's California case — it's set for pre-trial conference on Wednesday, and there are certain to be some developments there. We'll, of course, report on them as the information becomes available.

Of Primary Concern

Despite it being DNC week, there are several primaries on Tuesday: Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming. We'll have those live results up Tuesday evening.

MORNING MUSING

I was too tired by the time Biden shuffled on stage to deliver his speech to be angry. I don't know why I was expecting anything different from what we got. But 50 minutes of his bitter, angry, mendacious retread of the State of the Union speech was damn near torture. I suppose it's fitting that one of the last Joements we'll be subjected to was anything but noble, reflective, or uplifting. As Bob Hoge mused in his write-up of Night 1, I don't relish the thought of Kamala, but I'm not one bit sorry to see Joe go.
