She's been the presumptive nominee for the Democrats since shortly after Joe Biden announced he was bowing out of the 2024 presidential race and subsequently endorsed her, but now his Vice President, Kamala Harris, is officially the Democrats' 2024 presidential nominee.

Vice President Harris has passed the threshold needed to become the Democratic presidential nominee in a virtual roll call vote on Friday.

The vice president became the nominee just under two weeks since declaring her intent to run for the top of the 2024 ticket after President Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her. Within days, she secured support from enough delegates to clinch the nomination.

The Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) virtual roll call vote started at 9 a.m. on Thursday and Harris ran for the nomination unopposed.

While it took some time for some prominent Democrats to jump on board (most notably Barack and Michelle Obama), following several weeks of turmoil, the Democrat Party did what it seemingly does best: circled the wagons and got behind its new standard-bearer.

Harris has yet to name her running mate, but the field has narrowed, with Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro thought to be a heavy favorite despite pushback from the progressive flank of the party.

The Democrats are set to hold their convention in Chicago beginning August 19. Will the coronation of Queen Kamala continue to be smooth sailing? Or will there be more drama to follow? We'll know soon enough.
