FBI Director Christopher Wray testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. The stated purpose of the hearing was "to examine the FBI’s investigation into the assassination attempt against President Trump and the ongoing politicization of the nation's preeminent law enforcement agency under the direction of FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland."

There were several revelations that came from the hearing, and we'll provide a more detailed summary of those upon its conclusion. However, one key piece of information revealed by Wray is particularly chilling: One week before the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, performed a Google search for "How far away was Oswald from Kennedy?"

Crooks registered to attend the rally on that same day (July 6).

A search of a laptop linked to the 20-year-old gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Trump earlier this month revealed he had searched for information on John F. Kennedy's assassination before the shooting, FBI Director Christopher Wray told lawmakers on Wednesday.

Why it matters: Wray, speaking before the House Judiciary Committee, said the shooter searched "how far away was Oswald from Kennedy" on July 6 — the same day he registered to attend Trump's July 13 rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania.

While there are still countless questions regarding the attempted assassination, including how so many things could have gone wrong on the security front, how Crooks managed to get up on the roof with the weapon, and what his motive was, one thing that appears evident is that Crooks was contemplating assassination a full week prior to the rally.
