MORNING MUSING

I love the fact that my morning commute these days is roughly 12 feet as opposed to the 25+ miles it was for close to 30 years. But there are some things I miss about working in an office with colleagues close at hand — not least of which is some of the funny April Fool's pranks that were played over the years. A good friend and former colleague was the chief instigator of most such pranks, though he'd occasionally enlist my assistance in the often elaborate set-up. One of my favs was the time we covered just about every square inch of my former boss's office with empty coffee cups. (He was notorious for leaving his half-empty cups everywhere, which often led to coffee being spilt on various pleadings, briefs, and discovery responses.) Brilliant in its simplicity. When people ask if I miss practicing law, the answer is an unequivocal "No." But I do sometimes miss my work "family."
