Since Republicans reclaimed control of the U.S. House, they’ve been ramping up investigations into the origins of COVID, government overreach and censorship, and the apparent corruption of Biden, Inc.

As Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Rep. Jim Comer (R-KY) has been leading the charge on several of those fronts, including the financial dealings of Hunter Biden. As RedState reported previously, even before assuming his role as Chairman, Comer was pushing for information from the Treasury Department into Biden family transactions.

Rep. James Comer (R-KY)– who is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee — is demanding answers from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen as to why she has not responded to his request for bank documents.

“On May 25, 2022, I wrote to you requesting information regarding Hunter Biden and other Biden associates and family members’ financial transactions flagged by U.S. banks for reporting to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) through Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs),” states Comer.

“The Biden Administration is restricting Congress’ access to SARs, and Committee Republicans are investigating whether this change in longstanding policy is motivated by efforts to shield Hunter Biden and potentially President Biden from scrutiny,” Comer continued, noting that the secretary did not comply with a June 8 deadline for information.

A hearing set for last Thursday on “The Biden Family Investigation: The Department of the Treasury” had to be postponed due to Treasury’s continued refusal to cooperate. On March 7th, Comer sent a letter to Jonathan C. Davidson, Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs at Treasury, noting Davidson’s declining to attend the March 10th hearing and the continued slow-walking of requested documents, and requesting a transcribed interview for this Tuesday, March 14th.

The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is in receipt of your letter dated March 6, 2023, declining to attend a Committee hearing noticed for March 10, 2023. As you are aware, on January 11, 2023, the Committee requested the Department of the Treasury (Treasury) produce certain information in the custody of Treasury, including certain Suspicious Activity Reports. Almost two months after this request, Treasury has provided no documents or responsive information to the Committee. Additionally, Treasury refuses to give a timeline of when such documents will be provided to the Committee despite our repeated accommodations outlined in our February 24, 2023 letter.

Therefore, the Committee requests that you, as Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs within Treasury, make yourself available for a transcribed interview with Committee staff on March 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2157.

At present, it is unclear whether the interview will proceed on Tuesday. In the interim, Comer has issued subpoenas for bank records of several Hunter Biden business associates. Per CNN:

House Oversight Chairman James Comer has quietly subpoenaed Bank of America asking for records relating to three of Hunter Biden’s business associates, the committee’s ranking Democrat, Rep. Jamie Raskin, disclosed in a letter sent to Comer on Sunday.

The subpoena was broad and called for “all financial records” spanning 14 years, beginning in 2009, according to a copy of the letter obtained by CNN. Bank of America has since turned over a considerable number of materials in compliance with the subpoena, a source familiar with the communications told CNN.

The subpoena specifically targets US citizen John Robinson “Rob” Walker and other associates of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, who formed a “a joint venture” with executives of CEFC China Energy, a now-bankrupt Chinese energy conglomerate, according to the letter.

While it remains to be seen when/if the interview with Treasury will happen, that Bank of America has “turned over a considerable number of materials” in response to the subpoenas indicates the investigation is moving forward, if slowly.
