As a child of the 70s, when I hear the Carly Simon song “Anticipation,” I’m immediately reminded of the Heinz Ketchup commercial. Yes, the song predated the commercial and was popular in its own right, but it was the ubiquitous television commercial that drilled the song into my brain.

Now that we’ve entered the month of June, each Monday (and occasionally on Wednesday or Thursday) at 10 am Eastern, the Supreme Court hands down its decisions. As of this week, there were 33 opinions left to be issued before the end of the Court’s term (typically, late June or early July).

This is the time of year that law geeks like myself anxiously look forward to – this year, though, with the leak of the draft Dobbs decision hinting at Roe v. Wade being overturned and a significant Second Amendment case out of New York on the docket, the stakes seem higher and the anticipation all the greater.

So it was, that on Monday morning, I found myself perched in front of the computer, eyes glued to the SCOTUS Blog live feed (while I semi-listened to a weekly work meeting) with Carly Simon’s voice crooning in my mind’s ear. Hey – if it was good enough for ketchup, it’s good enough for Supreme Court decisions, right?
