Former CIA Chief John Brennan is having a really hard time staying quiet these days, expressing his deep and abiding concern the country is in a “full-blown national security crisis” because the New York Times said an aide to the former acting Director of National Intelligence told the House Intel Committee the Russians were helping Trump win again.

It sounds like that scene from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” that ends with Ferris passing out at 31 Flavors. “I guess it’s pretty serious,” Simone says.

And just like Ferris Bueller, John Brennan’s faking it, too.

The acting DNI Joseph Maguire — whose aide is said to have provided the briefing to the New York Times — is now out at as DNI and the former Ambassador to Germany, Ric Grenell, will be taking over. He’s already hired dogged corruption investigator Kash Patel and has a plan to clean out corruption.

And that’s the real source of Brennan’s concern. In fact, the erstwhile spy chief said as much in an interview with the Morning Joe team Friday:

In a Friday morning appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Brennan called the personnel move “a virtual decapitation of the intelligence community” and suggested that intelligence professionals should “see this as yet one more example that they are not being allowed to do their job.”

Brennan, who worked under three Democratic and three Republican administrations, also claimed the Trump administration does not “want the intelligence community to do its work — to the executive branch as well as to the legislative branch. But what we’re seeing now is such an anomaly, such an aberration from what we have seen in the past, about the importance of the independence of the intelligence community.”

There have been reports that Maguire was forced out of his position as a result of one of his aides, Shelby Pierson, giving a classified briefing to the House Intelligence Committee about Russian interference in the 2020 election. During the briefing, which took place last week, the committee was informed that Russia is trying to interfere in the upcoming presidential election in order to get Trump reelected.

But Brennan should really relax because, according to White House National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, Maguire wasn’t pushed out at all. His contract was ending in a matter of weeks and so Grenell was tapped to take his place.

Asked by CBS’s Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation” if he was “100 percent sure it had nothing to do with this congressional briefing,” O’Brien responded: “First of all, Joe Maguire wasn’t pushed out… he was serving under the Vacancy Act. He was acting, and his term, I believe, was ending March 11 or March 2, like two weeks from now.”

So it’s all good, John. You have nothing to worry about. In any event, you’re going to need to reserve that that worry for yourself when Durham’s report into the origins of the Russia collusion investigation finally comes out.
