'Meeting the Moment': Mike Rogers Makes His Play As Michigan Democrats Face a Growing Revolt

Every election cycle, we talk about how the battle for the heart and soul of our country is on and how conservatives and Republicans must meet the moment if America is to prevail over those who seek to do her harm.

If there's one thing above all else that was made clear after Tuesday night's Senate primary results in Michigan, the time is now to rise to the occasion, because Democrat nominee Abdul El-Sayed represents everything this country should stand against: anti-Americanism, open borders, antisemitism, disdain for capitalism, the free market, and law enforcement.

As RedState reported, there were murmurings ahead of Primary Day that Jewish donors were deeply concerned with the possibility of the pro-Hamas El-Sayed winning the primary and were considering backing Rogers in the general election. After the results came in, that possibility came even closer to reality, with one reporter noting that "a Democratic fundraiser in Michigan tells me it is 'absolutely certain' that 'several large Jewish Dem donors' will be backing Rogers. 'I would guarantee there will be fundraisers for him hosted by high-profile Jewish Dems.'"

In addition to Jewish concerns, another big problem the DSA-backed El-Sayed has - something we've seen with other DSA and DSA-backed candidates - is his limited appeal with working-class voters, including black voters, the latter of whom are normally a reliable voting bloc for Democrats.

It is likely with all of this in mind that Trump-backed GOP Senate nominee Mike Rogers, an Army veteran and former congressman, put out a message Friday morning with a direct appeal to disaffected Democrats in the purple state who were disillusioned by El-Sayed's primary victory:

If you’re among the majority of Democratic voters that woke up on Wednesday feeling, well, hopeless because the person who won does not represent your values, well, just know there is still hope. Michigan deserves a senator who is ready to sit with you, hear from you and represent you.
The parents across Michigan who want an education system that sets up their kids for success, you have a home with us. To grandparents across Michigan who are heartbroken from watching their kids and grandkids leave the state, you have a home with us.
To young people who are looking for real solutions to solve our housing affordability crisis, you have a home with us. To working families who don’t want higher taxes and lower paychecks, you have a home with us. And to the vast majority of people across Michigan who do not want to throw their support behind a campaign filled with anger, divisiveness, calls for violence, and the views that are out of touch with your values, you have a home with us.
The fight is far greater than just left versus right. The fight is for the very soul of our nation. Over the next 90 days, I’m going to work hard to earn your trust, to earn your support and earn your vote. We have a state to save, Michigan. Let's get to work.
