The Callous, Cheap Political Stunt JB Pritzker Pulled That Could Come Back to Haunt Him

The senseless murder of 18-year-old Loyola University freshman Sheridan Gorman last Thursday has once again cast an unflattering spotlight on so-called sanctuary cities like Chicago and the deadly consequences of shielding criminal illegal immigrants from justice.

As RedState reported, Gorman was out with friends early Thursday morning, walking the Chicago lakefront, when the suspect, 25-year-old Jose Medina, allegedly approached them and opened fire as they ran away. There are conflicting reports about where Gorman was shot. Some say she was shot in the head; others say in the back.

Upon learning that Medina was a Joe Biden-era illegal immigrant who shouldn't have been here, the attorney for Gorman's family issued the following statement:

"We are gravely disappointed by the policies and failures that allowed this individual to remain in a position to commit this crime... When systems fail -- whether through release decisions, lack of coordination, or unwillingness to act -- the consequences are not abstract. They are real. And in our case, they are permanent."

A couple of things make this particularly bad for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D), not so much in his role as governor but when it comes to possible 2028 presidential aspirations.

For starters, it's another told ya so moment for the Trump administration, which has repeatedly warned of the dangers of sanctuary city policies being allowed to go unchecked. Rest assured that this case is going to be brought back up in 2028 by Republicans, including whoever the eventual nominee is, as an example of how far Democrats will go to protect illegals - at the expense of the lives of innocent Americans.

The other way it could hurt Pritzker in 2028, and to some extent even now, is once people are made aware of/reminded of the cheap stunts he pulled in the summer and fall of 2025, posting videos of himself walking the Chicago lakefront - including one video of him walking in the early morning hours, to mock President Trump on the issue of how safe/dangerous Chicago was and is (while leaving out the fact that he no doubt was surrounded by security on his walks):

Relatedly, neither the governor nor disgraced Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) have bothered to issue statements directly about the case. The sole statement to come out from Pritzker's office so far has been from a spokesperson, who spent half of it complaining that the case was allegedly being politicized:

“Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman. Violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. The Trump Administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts."

Pathetic doesn't come close to covering it, but that's about all I've got right now.
