Mike Johnson Drops a 'Told Ya So' on Dems, Media After Newsom's Admission About Healthcare for Illegals

As RedState previously reported, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) gave Republicans a notable gift headed into the 2026 midterm election campaign season - and ahead of his anticipated entry into the 2028 presidential race  - with a recent admission on taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals.

"As it relates to undocumented [illegals] healthcare, I'm proud of that, 'cause I believe in universal health care," Newsom told leftist New York Times columnist Ezra Klein in a podcast interview. "Others may say it, I did it. First state in the country, regardless of pre-existing conditions, ability to pay, and regardless of your immigration status. I promised that, I promoted it, I ran three times on it. I did it when I was mayor. People know who I am."

Newsom also admitted that Democrats had failed on border security, but perhaps it didn't compute that an offer of "free" healthcare would be a big incentive for millions to cross the border illegally.

It was an inadvertent rebuke of what his fellow Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media had said for weeks during the Schumer Shutdown about how there was no such thing as taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, and that Republicans were "lying" about it.

One of the Republicans who faced this accusation was House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04), who relentlessly pounded Democrats daily during the shutdown for holding the government hostage and voting in a way that ensured the military and air traffic controllers would not get paid.

After Newsom said the quiet part out loud about "free" healthcare for illegal immigrants, Johnson posted a montage clip of several interviews he did during the shutdown where purported journalists would try to argue the point with him and essentially would use Democrat Party talking points to try and prove theirs:

"Surely, the retractions, corrections, and apologies are coming any minute now..." the message on the screen read at the end of the clip.

These are things that are very important for voters to keep in mind as the debate over extending the enhanced Obamacare subsidies plays out in Congress. Democrats don't want you to know that there's been rampant fraud in Obamacare to the tune of billions of dollars and that people who aren't even citizens of this country can get access to "free" healthcare if a Democrat chooses to exploit loopholes in the system, as Newsom has done

No, there won't be any apologies or retractions from the MSM on this, because acting as mouthpieces for Democrats is just who and what they are. But as Johnson's video makes clear, the facts don't care about anyone's feelings, and that's certainly true when we're talking about taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals as part of the overall debate on Obamacare subsidies.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left's lies, new legislation wasn't needed to secure our border, just a new president.
