As RedState previously reported, California Democrats are steamrolling ahead on plans to enact new redistricting maps, starting with passing a package of bills pushed for and signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) this month on grounds that they were doing it For the People™.
The bills greenlight a November special election, where voters will decide on whether to "temporarily" suspend the voter-approved independent redistricting commission process and allow the state to enact maps drawn by Democrat "leaders" in the state legislature, including two who reportedly are considering running in those districts, to counter mid-decade redistricting moves made by the Texas state legislature.
Newsom originally touted the plan as an "only if" option, saying that, if approved by voters, new Golden State maps would go into effect only if Texas carried through with redrawing its maps. But as snakes often do, California Democrats changed the language in some of the legislation at the last minute to allow for the maps to be used whether or not Texas proceeded with redistricting and regardless of whether the Texas maps ultimately get struck down by the courts.

On Tuesday, KCRA reporter Ashley Zavala shared on her X page a discovery she'd made on the "Stop Election Rigging" website set up by Newsom that urges voter support, and calls on them to donate to the cause. Instead of noting that the CA maps would go into effect regardless of whether or not Texas maps were signed into law and/or struck down ahead of the 2026 midterms, however, the website displayed the following message:
"Prop 50 provides emergency maps go into effect ONLY if Republicans move forward with their power grab."
Gov. Newsom’s website on Prop 50 says maps take effect only if “Republicans move forward with their power grab.”

But the governor confirmed last week California’s gerrymandered maps take effect no matter what, even if courts strike down what happens in Texas or other states. pic.twitter.com/Y7Bi9Aat9w
As Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin noted, though the Texas maps have passed, they still haven't been signed by Lone Star state Gov. Greg Abbott (R). And even if they got struck down by the courts (at least one lawsuit has already been filed, and more are sure to come), the California maps would still be in effect:
It hasn’t been signed by Abbott and it’s being hit with a bunch of lawsuits. If he signs it and the maps get thrown out due to legal action, California still moves forward, hence it would not be about “balance”.

Though the false and deceptive language on the Prop 50 website has since been changed to "ONLY because" instead of "ONLY if," some California Republicans, including Congressman Kevin Kiley, whose district Newsom has again targeted, have correctly pointed out that fraud by Newsom was the plan to begin with:
Newsom's entire campaign strategy is to commit fraud. Literally, that's the whole plan. https://t.co/BFieIqL7Bd

So, in summary, a site created to drum up support for Newsom's "stop election rigging" scheme was found to have been rigged to deceive voters into financially supporting it. Go figure.
