Woke Journo Sticks Foot in Mouth in Column Calling for Harrison Butker to Be Replaced With Female Kicker

The fauxtrage surrounding Harrison Butker's commencement speech at Benedictine College is still swirling nine days after he gave it, with the hot takes continuing to pour in from opportunistic critics for whom virtue signaling is a way of life, and the golden ticket to all the important parties.

The star Kansas City Chiefs kicker, as we previously reported, caused pearls to be clutched after he talked about traditional values from a Catholic perspective, tore into Joe Biden on the abortion issue, and had some very pointed things to say about woke/LGBTQ culture. He also - gasp - paid homage to motherhood in what was perhaps his worst "offense" according to these same people (the full speech can be read here).

But while many hot takes have been ushered forth, the one that might just take the cake comes courtesy of Peter Hamm, whose Kansas City Star bio lists him as "a former journalist and a public affairs professional for nonprofits, government agencies and political campaigns" who now resides in D.C.

With that in mind along with a Twitter bio that reads "progressive communications" and a feed that matches it, here's what Hamm had to say about Butker's remarks:

For poetic justice after Harrison Butker’s Neanderthal outburst — and because the pipeline of talent is real — the Kansas City Chiefs’ next kicker should be a woman.

This is not a joke. It’s not unrealistic. And it would be good for business. Just ask the University of Manitoba how ticket sales were last year.

Hamm then referenced several female kickers - most from the late 1990s/early 2000s, like Liz Heaston, Ashley Martin, Katie Hnida, and Sarah Fuller, all of whom made names for themselves for their brief participation in some college football games. Another one was Maya Turner, who currently kicks for the University of Manitoba and who Hamm says has "three more years at the college level to keep getting better."

Hamm admitted none of them in their prime came even close to Butker when it comes to having what it takes to be a professional kicker in the NFL, but that didn't matter because to him it was all about retribution over an imagined slight and scoring cool points by pretending to be the male version of a modern feminist.

Where he did himself in the most, however, was right here:

Harrison Butker is not Patrick Mahomes. He’s a special teams player. That gives him less leverage with the team. They could trade him for a solid kicker, or they could make a statement by signing a woman to kick.

In other words, there are no "solid" female kickers currently available in Hamm's view, but they should be offered up as a "statement" to prove a point to Harrison Butker about women in the workplace even though Butker did not pass judgment one bit on women who chose paths in life that did not initially include motherhood.

As far as I'm concerned, Hamm's column is far more insulting than anything Butker possibly could have said during that speech or at any other point.  Because he's calling for a woman to be placed in the major leagues not because of her talent level, which he admits doesn't rise to that of a man's, but because of her lady parts and because in his opinion, "It would be delightful if one of them cost the Kansas City Chiefs kicker his job."

So let's review here: Butker praises women and motherhood in his speech by talking about how though "some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world... I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

Hamm, on the other hand, says a woman who doesn't come close to a man's talent level in the NFL should be offered up as a warm body purely to occupy a position on the team in order to squeeze a guy out for WrongSpeak.

So just who is setting women back here? The guy paying respect to them for whatever they decide to do in life, or the guy who wants to sacrifice the reputation of one in the name of wokeness? I report, you decide.
