WATCH: A Story About 'Woke Garbage' and Two Florida Republican Lawmakers Who Did Us Proud

Though the stories of Laken Riley's February 22nd murder and the dueling border visits from Joe Biden and Donald Trump understandably dominated the news cycles over the last couple of weeks, there was much action going on in the Florida state legislature that deserves its fair share of attention as well - albeit for much different reasons.

There were two instances specifically, one of which involved Rep. Berny Jacques, a Republican who represents House District 59, and the other which involved Republican Rep. Toby Overdorf, who represents the Sunshine State's 85th District.

Jacques is one of the sponsors of an anti-DEI education bill (HB 1291), a bill that, among other things, "Prohibits courses and curriculum of teacher preparation programs, postsecondary educator preparation institutes, professional learning certification programs, and school leader preparation programs from distorting certain events and including certain curriculum and instruction..."

As they previously (and falsely) claimed about other Republican-backed education initiatives in Florida including those supported by Gov. Ron DeSantis, Democrats in the Florida House of Representatives have suggested that the current bill is a backdoor way of preventing public school educators from teaching about black history and racism.

Jacques, of course, took issue with this characterization and proceeded to argue against it, but was interrupted by jeers from Democrats after he referred to "woke" as "garbage":

“It’s just, if you’re going to teach it, don’t distort it based on identity politics, notions of systemic racism and all sorts of woke garbage," State Rep. Jacques said. "And we’re not stopping the teaching of the Jim Crow era or about the Tuskegee experiment, what this bill prevents is you distorting that history to fit your ideological narratives that indoctrinates the children instead of educating the children."

As you can see from the clip below, the House had to be called to order twice after Jacques was interrupted, with Democrat Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell raising "decorum" objections over the term "garbage." Jacques then amended his wording to use the term "rubbish" instead, which still fauxfended Democrats.

Watch:

It should be noted that on the same day, during the same session, a Florida Democrat also used the term "rubbish" shortly thereafter. At the latest check there were no howls of outrage from her colleagues, however:

For the record, the bill passed 81-31.

The incident involving Rep. Overdorf happened after a constituent was commenting during a Judiciary Committee hearing in late February on rolling back gun laws. Watch what the person says, and Overdorf's priceless reaction:

DeSantis was, as usual, right on point when he said Florida was the state "where woke goes to die." Well done, guys. Well done.
