London Breed’s Answer to Question on Sudden Clean-Up of San Francisco Streets Should Be a Wake Up Call

With the APEC conference now in full swing in San Francisco, and President Joe Biden and China's President Xi Jinping scheduled for a visit and high-stakes meeting on Wednesday in the middle of it all, one of the big questions on the minds of some residents and media outlets is ... what took the clean-up of city streets so long?

As we previously reported, the once-world-class city rushed to hide the homeless and clean up the drug paraphernalia and poop before opening day festivities started Saturday, all in an effort to impress powerful guests and dignitaries who were scheduled to visit.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who has promised ever since his days as a San Fran Supervisor 25 years ago to "fix" the homeless/drug/crime problems, even made a pretty stunning admission in the days leading up to the event, telling reporters and long-frustrated residents that yes, they did, in fact, clean up the city because Important People were coming:

"I know folks are saying, 'Oh they're just cleaning up this place because all those fancy leaders are coming to town.' That's true because it's true, but it's also true for months and months and months prior to APEC we've been having conversations," said Newsom.

San Francisco's woke Mayor London Breed, however, was not so keen to blurt the quiet part out loud, and in a Bloomberg Technology interview where she was point-blank asked what took you so long, she proceeded to gaslight:

“Just to be clear, we have been working on this for a few years. This is not an issue have been sitting around waiting to solve. It is something San Francisco continues to work on. "

Oh, really? There are San Franciscans who beg to differ.

Breed's and Newsom's remarks should be big wake-up calls to California Democrats - but unfortunately, they won't be.

Here's the thing about the Breeds and the Newsoms of this country. As far as their supporters are concerned they talk a good game, and what they say to the Democratic faithful sounds good. The problem is that in terms of improvement, they have ZILCH to show for all the rhetoric and money they've thrown at the homelessness and drug problems that have plagued big cities in California under Democratic leadership going back several decades now.

It's only gotten worse, so much so that a much-talked-about exodus has been happening, with fed-up residents fleeing to safer, freer red states like Texas and Florida.

And while there are those who stay to fight the good fight, the majority of people in the big cities and states in California are staunch Democrats who keep voting for the same types of people and hoping things will be different the next time around, that Utopia will at long last be achieved.

But it won't be.

As long as this continues to happen with voters making these same decisions again and again, people can expect the deterioration of San Francisco and California to continue. Yes, London Breed and Gavin Newsom are just two of many bad-faith public officials on the left in the Golden State, but at some point the people who keep putting them in positions of power need to own up to the damage they've done in continuing to elect them in the first place.

In other words, if you are a resident of California and you keep pulling that lever for Democrats and expecting a different result, then you are part of the problem.
