RedState reported Wednesday on the bizarre exchange between a reporter and Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) as they walked down a hall in the Cannon House Building where Allred actually threatened to call the Capitol Police on the citizen journalist because he was questioning the taxpayer-paid Congressman on taxpayer-funded federal property.
Before we get to Sen. Ted Cruz's reaction, here's the video clip of their back-and-forth for those who missed it:

As noted in the Daily Caller exclusive on the incident, though they can't follow and take video of elected officials everywhere in the building, the reporter had every right to be asking questions of Rep. Allred in that hallway and filming him as he was doing so:
For electronic media coverage, the House states “[v]ideotaping and audio recording are permitted in the public areas of the House and Senate office buildings.” The video was taken inside of the public area of the Cannon House Building, the Daily Caller learned.
Allred, as RedState readers will recall, declared his Senate candidacy in May in hopes of being the nominee who gets to take on Sen. Cruz in the 2024 general election. Though he won't be the only one in the Democratic primary, Allred is the most high-profile Democrat to date who has announced he's running.
Not surprisingly, Cruz, who is in his second Senate term, saw the video of Allred repeatedly threatening to call the Capitol Police on the journalist, and had a great question in response:
This is bizarre.

Reporters ask Members of Congress Qs EVERY DAY at the Capitol.
I answer reporter Qs every day at the Capitol.
What the hell does he mean, “you’re on federal property; you can’t do this this here?”
That’s just false. What’s he hiding?? https://t.co/hPn28VqeT1
"What's he hiding?" indeed.
I mean Allred is in his second term as a Congressman and should understand at this point that you need to be able to explain and defend your record when asked to do so. The repeated failure of a politician to respond to such questions is an indication that they're either not proud of it and/or want to keep voters in the dark. Taking the additional step of calling on the police to try and get rid of them is an indication they don't think they are answerable to the people.
That is not a good look - like at all.
Texas voters deserve to hear where Allred stands on critical issues like Middle East funding, gender identity politics, and other issues that are important to Lone Star residents. If he can't handle questions from a lone citizen journalist and thinks he's above having to explain his stances to the people in his state, then he definitely doesn't deserve another term in the House much less a Senate seat.
