Jen Psaki Gets Another 'Kids in Cages' Question, and Our Intelligence Is Insulted Once Again

RedState reported Tuesday on how White House press secretary Jen Psaki was spinning like a top after Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked her about news reports on the Biden administration’s reopening of a temporary facility in Texas for unaccompanied migrant children.

For those who missed it, here is a partial transcript of how that exchange went down:

Doocy: But it’s the same facility that was open for a month in the Trump administration. Summer of 2019 — that is when Joe Biden said, “Under Trump, there have been horrifying scenes at the border of kids being kept in cages.” And Kamala Harris said, basically, babies in cages is a human rights abuse being committed by the United States government. So how is this any different than that?

Psaki: We very much feel that way. And these — are facilities — let me be — let me be clear here. One, there’s a pandemic going on. I’m sure you’re not suggesting that we have children right next to each other in ways that are not COVID safe, are you?

Doocy: I’m suggesting that Kamala Harris said that this facility — putting people in this facility was a human rights abuse committed by the United States government. And Joe Biden said, “Under Trump, there have been horrifying scenes of border” — “at the border of kids being kept in cages.” Now it’s not under Trump. It’s under Biden.

Psaki: This is not kids being kept in cages. This is —

Doocy: But it’s the same facility.

Psaki: This is kids — this is a facility that was opened that’s going to follow the same standards as other HHS facilities. It is not a replication. Certainly not. That’s — that is never our intention of replicating the immigration policies of the past administration.

As my colleague Bonchie noted at the time, the gaslighting from Psaki was very real.

Psaki was asked again today by Doocy about Biden’s ‘kids in cages’ facility, and once again she insulted the intelligence of the American people, this time by proclaiming that one of the biggest differences is that the Biden administration was not ripping kids from the arms of their parents at the border:

“Is it kids in containers instead of kids in cages?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Psaki.

“We have a number of unaccompanied minors coming into the country without their families,” Psaki responded. “What we are not doing is what the last administration did, which was separate those kids, rip them from the arms of their parents at the border.”

Watch the full exchange between Doocy and Psaki below. Note that some of the reasons she gives for reopening the facility are very similar to the ones the Trump administration gave for having to open them in the first place, yet it’s the Trump administration who were the bad guys while Biden is swooping in to save the day or something:

The double standards on this issue from the media and Democrats alike (but I repeat myself) are appalling. Trump got blistered for it but when Biden does it suddenly the narrative changes. And, with few exceptions (like Doocy), the Usual Suspects in the press just play right along. In the process, a lot of people are emotionally manipulated for political gain, retweets, and likes. It’s disgusting.

Clearly Psaki is not willing to give a straight answer on the Biden admnistration’s policy on unacompanied migrant minors at the border, so perhaps this should be the next question Doocy asks her at tomorrow’s briefing:

I bet the spin on her answer to that one would be one for the ages. “Let me circle back’ wouldn’t quite cover it, though.
