I wish I could say I was surprised by this damning and comprehensive Free Beacon report about how at least two “uncommitted” voters from last week’s ABC News Trump town hall were in reality staunchly anti-Trump and pro-Democrats, but I’m not. Because the media have pulled stunts like this so many times before.
Collin Anderson at the Beacon did the investigative digging the mainstream media won’t do and discovered social media posts from two questioners that went against ABC News’s claim that everyone participating in the town hall were “uncommitted”:
Kutztown University professor Ellesia Blaque—whom ABC repeatedly identified as “uncommitted” in its coverage of the town hall—praised vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris during the Democratic primary, saying she would “be there, volunteering” for the California senator in Pennsylvania. The English professor was not shy about her partisanship, calling Trump a “f—ing moron,” “pathetic,” “pig,” “swine,” “punk ass,” and “LOOSER” (sic) in a slew of 2019 tweets. She is a self-described “liberal Democrat,” according to her Facebook profile, on the grounds that liberals “are not motivated by money or power, but by humanity and the needs of the people.”
[…]
Another “uncommitted” voter, Philadelphia pastor Carl Day, tweeted that he’s “never once supported trump and won’t now” in August, just weeks before the ABC town hall. He went on to say that Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan refers to a time in which “the n— did what they were told in all industries, wouldn’t have the audacity to try to enter a white establishment and didn’t talk back to the cops.” Day also referred to Trump as a “villain,” called him “ridiculously arrogant & obnoxious,” and said he “ain’t no Christian” in posts spanning from 2015 to 2019.
Here are a couple of examples of some of the tweets that were still up on their Twitter pages as of this writing:
Good Morning @KamalaHarris😊
I watched ur announcement speech in Oakland. I’m so excited that from the gate ur supported by a multicultural community! Thanks so much 4 taking this on. When u campaign in Philly & Allentown. I’ll be there, volunteering. #KamalaHarris2020!

I’ve never once supported trump and won’t now. What I will do is call them all out for their foolery

The Beacon has many more examples, which they screengrabbed in the event they were later deleted.
Both Blaque and Day asked Trump questions during the town hall. Here’s what Day asked Trump:
“You’ve coined the phrase ‘Make America Great Again,’ when has America been great for African-Americans in the ghetto of America? Are you aware how tone-deaf that comes off to the African-American community?”
Day later told local news outlets he would not be voting for Trump, but had not yet made a decision as to whether he’d vote for Biden or someone on a third-party ticket.
Blaque asked Trump about health care, and was not satisfied with his answer. She said afterwards she was voting for Biden.
Even if both of them weren’t committed to voting for Biden before the town hall, it’s pretty clear they were committed to not supporting President Trump no matter what he said to them in response to their questions.
While there is nothing wrong with expressing your political opinions on Twitter, and it’s certainly a person’s right to support whoever they want to, that ABC News falsely portrayed these two as “uncommitted voters” was about as dishonest as it gets.
But I guess we shouldn’t be too surprised at this, seeing as one of their top anchors – and the guy who just happened to be picked to run the town hall – is a former Clinton administration official who still maintains deep and personal ties to the Democratic party.
